Woman accused of using paint roller to destroy Canada goose eggs behind home

BYRON TOWNSHIP, MICH. - A Kent County woman ran afoul of the law for allegedly using a paint roller to smash several Canada goose eggs in a nest behind her home in early April.

“Once every couple of years we’ll see something like this,’’ said Lt. Gerald Thayer, a conservation officer with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources. “Most people realize they have to live with the wildlife, but this lady took matters into her own hands and decided to go out with a paint roller on an extension and destroy the eggs and the nest.’’

The 41-year-old woman was charged with a wildlife conservation violation, specifically, destroying eggs of a protected bird, court records show. It’s a misdemeanor punishable by 90 days in jail.

Canadian Geese are like rats, shouldn't be illegal!

amen, they are a complete nuisance, with very few natural predators.

It's Canada Geese, not Canadian Geese.

Ignorant people!
It's Canada Geese.
Humans are so hateful and intolerant.

6:01, You are wrong. It is Canada Goose, not geese. In fact, Canadians believe those Americans calling them geese are ignorant. Fact.

Canadian, Canada, Goose, Geese - whatever anyone wants to call them, they are NASTY. Hate them and what they leave behind. They are like the illegals, more and more and more of them, all the time and can't get rid of them.

Whatever you call them, they are nasty filth and mean and should be illegal to eradicate them from your property

Most of the problem geese are not Canada Geese at all! All of the "resident" geese in Maryland are a cross of Canada Geese and Great Western Geese.

Geese is the plural of goose. One is a Canada goose more then 1 would be Canada geese.

We love them. Have a family living at our pond right now.

I say round up all them their Canadian Gooses and deport them back to Canada or hunt them down and have them their Canadian Gooses for dinner.

They are no longer migratory birds and as such should no longer be protected by international agreements.

Write or call your government officials and complain about the legal bag limit. The issue is a hunter can only legally take 2 birds a day during the regular season. Maryland only has a goose season to continue to get government funding not to manage the population. The resident seasons are not so productive even though you're allowed 25 per day cant hunt them at the park lol during the winter months they are in the fields and farms more and can be managed better from a hunting standpoint
