Agreed. When I first heard they were closing the ramp, I figured it was a few days or maybe a week, not FOUR months. Since I come up to the North end to Sam's and points north, this will be a MAJOR inconvenience.
This will be a total cluster! Accident after accident....backups galore. Somebody needs to correct this before someone dies due to stupidity.
I live in west ocean city and thought the same thing. There is no way I'm going shopping in Salisbury until that ramp is completed.

There's several ways to get onto the bypass other than that ramp. People from out of town will be using GPSs so they'll be auto rerouted.
If you're from here, and you were heading south just go to Zion Road and make a u-turn onto the ramp.

ALL that traffic coming in from New York, New Jersey, PA and even DE will be backed up for many miles throughout the summer. Most of us who live in OC don't come to Salisbury unless it's the weekend. So there's NO WAY, no matter what the detours are, are heading that way and deal with your stupidity.
It should've been done any other time then summer. It will be a massive financial loss to Salisbury's income.
I never understood why they did this stuff in the middle of the busy season in 100 degree weather. If they started in March they would have been done by now.

10:12 anyone with common sense should have come up with this in the least busiest time of the year for traffic, not the busiest like early spring or early fall. There is nothing wrong with infrastructure but use a little common sense. They should have planned a little more for making a U-turn at Zion Road intersection. That left turn signal sure does not allow for all that traffic.
They reported that 40,000 vehicles travel this route daily....imagine what chaos this will bring....smh!
When Donnie Drewer was in charge of state highway this would've never happened. The OC Mayor and Council must be fuming at this, in fact this was never ever mentioned at their annual spring briefing. What a joke.
I totally agree!!!!! Someone didn't think that stupid decision all the way through or think very far ahead. Doesn't affect me too much. I know the area and now how to get around it. It's the out of staters and the people that come over here that have no clue where they are going or how to go around anything. What is sad is they have Route 50 in Salisbury all f'ed up. Looks like they are getting that done, but I had to stop driving on it or across it. The bumps going across were horrendous. I drove very slowly across, but the bumps still tried to rip the steering wheel out of my hand. How the heck can they do this crap that causes accidents or can cause damage to your vehicle??

Whats the fuss......just go to the next traffic light at Zion rd and make a U turn and bam......there's the ramp to get on the bypass. Problem solved.
We survived for years without the by-pass.....we will survive this little inconvenience to!!! Who knows maybe it will improve the downtown businesses support for the short term????? Drive thru town eat at Brew River or Market Street Inn....or slum and visit Roadie Joe's.

So here's a great plan. First of all, build a bypass around an already dying town...then wait until the busiest time of year to make an area of that bypass unusable.

You're on your way to OC without the 5 mile backtrack. Those 2 left turns at the Naylor Mill bridge will be a constant traffic jam and accident machine. Avoid that at ask costs!

Well according to the Press Release it was MDOT SHA. Mayor Day has as much say in that exit being closed as CE Culver - and that is none, zilch, zero. There are 11 bridges to be repaired. . There is a time frame for completion. Everybody will have tales of woe by the time all the bridge work is completed,
Have you it a all never been stuck in construction traffic before. Locally and travelling through out the USA, that is a given. It is what it is, so be miserable and complain or cope with it. Either way that exit will be closed .
Some comments on here are confusing - I've read often on here how nobody shops at the Centre anymore - nobody eats at the lousy restaurants in the north area anymore- nobody goes to target anymore - all the store north are closing down - recently someone posted on here that the traffic coming out of New York, New Jersey, PA drive Rt 113 (not 13 or 50 in Salisbury) to get to beaches.
I know nothing about highway construction or repairs, exactly like 90+ percent of you. Therefore i will not lower myself to call them stupid and I cannot say the timing was poor planning. IMO the north 13 traffic is always bad. The press release says temporary traffic signals will be installed at the Naylor Mill ramps to improve safety and facilitate traffic flow during the detour.
All bypass work will be completed by summer 2018 so on a happy note we can quite belly aching in a year.
Joe,why would you want to come to Salisbury in the first place? 2nd there are many routes around this cluster fu** Totally agree wrong time of year, but just occurred to me. Maybe many will just travel Rt 13 thru town to Fruitland... and give the business's on 13 some business.

Likely one of SHA engineers that is familiar with the capabilities of Corman Construction. Corman Construction is not you run of the mill civil construction contractor. These folks are known for using unconventional methods to get projects done ahead of time and under budget.
