Suspect Arrested In Overnight Murder In Worcester Co.

(POCOMOKE CITY, MD) — Maryland State Police troopers arrested a suspect early this morning who was wanted in connection with the murder last night of a man in Worcester County.

The victim is identified as Deontre’ L. Bailey, 23, of Pocomoke City, Md. He was pronounced dead last night after being transported from the scene to the Peninsula Regional Medical Center.

The suspect is identified as Darryl K. Wise Jr., 26, of Pocomoke City, Md. After consultation with the Worcester County State’s Attorney’s Office, State Police investigators applied for and obtained an arrest warrant charging Wise with first degree murder, second degree murder, reckless endangerment, first degree assault, second degree assault, and handgun violations.

Just after 10:00 p.m. yesterday, the Pocomoke City Police Department received a 911 call reporting that a person was lying in the street in front of a residence in the 100-block of Fourth Street. Responding police officers found the victim, who had sustained what appeared to be a gunshot wound to his upper torso. Emergency medical services personnel transported the victim to the hospital.

Police Chief William H. Harden Sr., contacted the Maryland State Police and requested the Homicide Unit assume the investigation. State Police Homicide Unit investigators responded, as did crime scene technicians from the State Police Forensic Sciences Division. Troopers were assisted throughout the night by investigators from the State Police Criminal Enforcement Division, the Maryland State Apprehension Team, the Worcester Criminal Enforcement Team, the Worcester County Bureau of Investigation, the Pocomoke City Police Department, the Worcester County Sheriff’s office and state troopers from the Berlin Barrack.

The preliminary investigation indicates Wise came to the home in the 100-block of Fourth Street shortly before 10:00 p.m. yesterday and was talking with a resident there on the front porch, when several individuals, including the victim, also came to the home and stood on the porch. Witnesses told investigators one of the men, later identified as the victim, threw a bottle at Wise and struck him in the upper torso. An argument ensued that ultimately resulted in Wise shooting Bailey with a handgun. Wise fled the scene on foot. A motive is unknown at this time.

After obtaining the arrest warrant, investigators called in the Maryland State Apprehension Team was to search for the suspect. The fugitive search team located Wise shortly before 6:30 a.m. today and arrested him without incident. He will be processed and taken before a court commissioner for an initial appearance later today.

The investigation is continuing.

yeah, good ole Pocomoke - the "friendliest town on the Eastern Shore"....what is this, the 3rd murder in a year?

Thanks to Russell Blake the town transformed from a village of working class neighbors into a section 8 cesspool full of drugs and non-residence (remember all those "sweeps" the sheriff's office would do to get Virginia residents out of the projects?)

As older people died off housing turned into rentals and with it, the value and quality of life fell like a rock. Sounds like Salisbury Jr. doesn't it. I moved from Pocomoke in the late 1990's before the majority of the corruption (i.e.chiefs of police) and violence began. Thank the Lord.

Pocomoke - I am sorry but you at certainly NOT the "friendliest town on the Eastern Shore". That town died years ago.

Let's see here...Deonte' (with an apostraphe) Darryl, that is a common name? How about Darryl spends the rest of his life somewhere other than ECI? Hell, they will let him out after about 10 years, give him $40 and a bus ticket to the SBY. Thanks Jakie

That's not an apostrophe, it is referred to as a "high comma", right JB?

Yup, that's all it takes nowadays. Haven't you seen the article about road ragers using firearms now when someone pisses them off? Cut someone off or tailgate them and get a bullet.

I guess you can say Wise wasn't very wise. Then again it is Pocomoke. Good ole P-city!!! Yeah right. I have friends that live there. Wish they get out of there. Pocomoke is not BEAST MODE!!

You think that is why he murdered someone? Come on now. You have to be a little bit smarter than that. He may have been hit with a bottle but they were arguing over something. This is in the almost exact spot a man was murdered in months ago. Out two and two together here.

Geesh.. what is it going to take for young people to realize that a diss, a beef, isnt worth taking a life over.. it seems the value of a human life h as gone down just like the value of $1 in the United States.
Why did the other people who were on the porch try to stop the one guy from shooting the other one?

As a nearly life-long resident of Pocomoke, I have to second the comment on Russ Blake. As City Manager for nearly forever, he was the typical collectivist progressive that mastered the art of getting federal grant money to feed contracts (maybe even a few buddies too) in a quest to turn Pocomoke into his own vision of a socialist utopia. He was the stereotypical politician who saw the citizens as 'subjects' dependent on his supreme guidance and leadership - or they would all surely be worse off. He is gone now from the office but the damage he has done ( with the help of many sheeple -mostly Democraps) will likely perpetuate and worsen for generations. I bet his wallet is not suffering either. Does this sound familiar folks?

A better title for Pocomoke is 'America in miniature' - but not in the way this phrase is usually meant.

I tell everyone I meet that is considering a move to Pocomoke.
'Don't do it !'
