Head of DC police union stole $180k in dues

WASHINGTON (AP) — The head of a District of Columbia youth corrections officers union has pleaded guilty to stealing more than $180,000 in union dues over a period of three years, nearly draining the union’s bank account.

The Washington Post reports (http://wapo.st/2lIDX4Q ) that Takisha Brown Dorsey pleaded guilty to wire fraud in federal court on Thursday. She faces up to 20 years in prison.

Authorities say the union realized the theft in December of 2015 when they checked the bank account balance and discovered only $277 left.

I'm glad they published her name. Otherwise, nobody would have a clue as to the type of criminal element she is. Other people of her element though have stolen from others so she should not be singled out. All she wanted was her fair share and the money really didn't belong to anyone. It was Union money and they have plenty.

"In 2014 she nixed a requirement that a second official sign off on withdrawals."

That should have been the big tip-off to the membership.

remember me always saying the guards were as bad as the inmates, and always getting slammed for it? Well, since the news about ECI guards, this and other stories concerning guards, I think I have been vindicated.

What kind of person thinks that much money could just disappear without a trail pointing to them?

The ones that do it. They never think they will be caught, or they wouldn't do it in the first place.
