Stop living in fear. Don't let the terrorists win. My kids will be educated and not back down to someone who calls at least 8 different schools in 1 day.
8 or more schools got the same recorded call and the police compared notes, figuring the impossibility of 8+ schools could be compromised over a weekend with no signs of a break in at either.
I used to work for the BOE and we were trained to evacuate the building if there was an internal threat, such as a bomb threat, intruder with weapon, etc. If the threat was nearby, but not directly inside the school, we were required to do a "lock down" where no one was allowed in or out until we received an "all clear" from local authorities. I'm thinking that this was the school's fault for not following protocol and not necessarily the superintendent's. I could be wrong. Maybe protocol has changed. Either way, an investigation into how this was handled/mishandled should be every parents concern. Times are changing, anything is possible!
that cathy justice comment is what is wrong around here. morons like her do not realize that lawsuits are the only way to effect change sometimes. especially around here. but she and others are so worried someone might have a few more dollars than her.
Were there ever threats before an actual bomb went off? It seems like almost all bomb threats are illegitimate.

Bomb threats do seen to be more likely to be hoaxes, but there are exceptions. When Irgun bombed the British offices in the King David hotel in Jerusalem phone calls warning of the bomb were made to the hotel. The threats were ignored probably because of hoax threats. Threats made earlier in the day had even resulted in the hotel being searched before the bomb was planted.
Similarly, the IRA occasionally, but not consistently, called and made warnings of bombs they planted. They would plant bombs, call to have the location evacuated, then blame British authorities if the evacuation didn't happen fast enough and people were injured or killed.
Finally, when the University of Wisconsin math building was bombed by student protestors during the Vietnam war a warning phone call was made to the police dispatcher. The bomb exploded minutes later and destroyed the building killing a researcher.
So bomb threats are occasionally real, but they seem to be a vanishingly small proportion of bomb threats and actual bombs generally are detonated without warning to inflict the maximum carnage. Durning the Vietnam war bomb threat hoaxes were so common at one university (and I can't remember which off the top of my head) they reduced their response to putting a sign outside buildings threatened stating the building had been targeted by a bomb threat. Classes continued without disruption and no bombings occurred there. The practice of responding to every threat also has a cost and bomb hoaxes could be seen as a form of real life denial of service attack. The three examples here are all from political movements which seem to be trying to avoid massive retaliation by reducing casualties but causing a spectacle to drive policy and public opinion.
I did not write the above but the the above is instructive. I can't recall the last time a bomb threat was made and there was a bomb that was found or that went off. It is safe to say that if somebody is setting off a bomb they do not as a rule tell you first. It is when there is no bomb that they broadcast it. You all should just calm down.

Makes sense to me it was not credible.
Panicking at this would have been a mistake.

Another idiot heard from! It's procedure to evacuate. If the source wasn't credible then why did the Sheriff's Office search the school you moron.
People that think bomb threats are hoaxes better wake up. All it takes is one time and one life and the survivors in leadership will have a lot of answering to do. Wicomico County and the Board of Education as well as the Wicomico County Sheriff's Office doesn't have enough money to pay off the families because of the poor decisions of the Sheriff's Office and the Board of Education.
In my professional opinion Ms. Pinhey needs to be fired because of her irrational decision. This is her second year as a new Principal and she has failed the children and families of Parkside High School.
Also, whoever from the Sheriff's Office who made the decision not to evacuate the school, the onus of this decision falls under Public Safety and that is you. I want to see some firings or at minimum demotions. Um. Pinhey need to be fired and so does the Officer of the day at the Sheriff's Office.
Why is it Ok to send all these fire trucks to ambulance calls and ladder trucks, tankers, rescue trucks and multiple fire engines to a small house with a "Smoke Investigation??"
Why is it Ok to send all that fire equipment "Just In Case" or "it's better to have to much than not enough" or "it's better to be safe than sorry?"
Why is that Ok, but when it comes to our kids who should have been evacuated from the school while a bomb threat was investigated it's called just a "false call" anyway. Why isn't is Ok to be safe than sorry with our children. Why is it Ok to send all those fire trucks when you know by a "credible source" that it was a false call?
Isn't this the same school that just had the controversy with the teaching of Islam in an art class?
Isn't this the same school that had team captains on the soccer teams and field hockey teams that got drunk during Home Coming and nothing happened to them?
Sounds like we have a leadership problem at Parkside High School and it's time for a change. Fire Pinhey tomorrow!
Been there done that,in a neighboring county, with a different scenario. My child came home one day and told me the school was "locked down" that day because someone was bleeding and needed an ambulance.I immediately called the school and got denial.I persisted and called the BOE ,and they did not return my call until a WEEK later ,and only then,I got a "diluted" version of what happened.A nosebleed.I never knew a nosebleed required police and a lockdown!

The Board of Education is very lame. That is why we are going to an all elected school board. That will clean that crap up and this principal would be looking for another job.
I can tell you this much, I have some of the best kids you can imagine. They love all their teachers and principals and always speak highly of them.
I picked my kids up from Parkside High School yesterday afternoon and they stated they didn't know anything about the bomb threat and the school wasn't evacuated. Then she went on to tell me how Ms. Pinhey lies to the students and is very arrogant and mean to them. I was shocked when my daughter said that. My daughter has loved every principal that she has ever had until she got to Parkside High School. What has John Fredericksen done to us by putting this lame unqualified person in charge of a school as large as 1300 students. There needs to be some change in this County.

Was this the only school that was not evacuated? I know the ones in Virginia and Delaware were. I wonder what the difference is?

damed if they do, damed if they don't. what they need is tracer phones. nip this in the bud. they just want out of school, imo.
Parksides Principal needs to be fired. Their press release is very suspicious.
