CINCINNATI, Ohio (Scripps) -- Thousands of people are turning on their PC these days, only to find their screen locked.
And a pop up demands money, a lot of money, to unlock it.
It's no joke, and it is something you need to know about it before it happens to you.
Don Daniels turned to a local computer repair firm, hoping they could rescue his laptop from someone trying to extort hundreds of dollars from him.

Once you go Mac, you never go back!
If this happens to you, try this, turn off your internet connection, usually a button on the top row, on my HP it is F2. Restart your PC and run your virus scan. Turn internet connection back on and you should be good to go. Your welcome and you owe me $700 LOL

Not a chance. A Mac is a toy
This happened to me a couple of years ago. Lucky for me, I had a seperate account under another name. I logged in that account and did a system restore using the date of about 2 or 3 days before it hit me.
Mac's don't get as many viruses because they are more secure. They get less viruses because not many people use Macs and if you want to write a virus that will hit the majority of computer users you write it for the platform that most users have which is Windows.
Funny part about Mac users is that they don"t even install an antivirus because they arrogantly think they can't get infected. This false sense of security often leaves them more vulnerable than most PC users.
There are many Macs out there that have infections but the Mac user will never know because they they have no way of detecting it.
Also when a vulnerability is discovered in Macs OS Apple takes their sweet time to resolve it and they don't let their users know of this vulnerability because it could hurt their image.
It's sorta like when Toyota was hit with the massive recall scandal. They didn't issue the recall because they had such a reputation of being reliable and having a massive recall could damage that image.
Apple does not want to inform their users of viruses because it would then hurt their image of being virus free.
