Bill Would End SHA's Speed Camera Program

A bill which would end the SHA's speed camera program has been submitted to the General Assembly and is set for a hearing on March 5.

House Bill 1038 would repeal article 21-810, which authorizes the state to use speed cameras on highway work zones "regardless of whether workers are present". The bill sponsors are Delegates Haven Shoemaker, John Cluster, Glen Glass, Jay Jalisi, Trent Kittleman, Robert Long, Tony McConkey, Warren Miller, and Matthew Morgan.

HB 1038 would have no effect on local speed camera programs, such as those in Montgomery County and Prince George's County on local roads, since those cameras are authorized under a different statute.

Most effective work zone speed control device EVER. Too bad they don't keep it in effect. Most speed demons will pay attention to the speed limits (or the signs "Photo Enforced"), in work zones after they get that first ticket. If they didn't, then they were just dangerous, non-compliant morons that, as usual, will put everyone else's life at risk so that they can go faster than everyone else.

2:40 To go along with your line of thinking, maybe they should double down and fine people that don't have their lights on the second it starts raining or the when sun goes down. Here's another, photo every driver going by to catch someone on their cell phone, yeah, yeah, mo money, MO MONEY! I'm sure you wouldn't be caught on any of that... Ireton can use you on his team right away.
