Super Bowl MVP Tom Brady is facing a $60,500 bill from the IRS just for winning the game, according to a new report.
Americans for Tax Reform said he will have to pay $42,000 on his share of the $97,000 for playing in the championship, and another $18,500 for giving away the red Chevy Colorado pickup truck he won for being MVP to fellow player Malcolm Butler, who caught the game-winning interception.
They said Brady will have to pay about $13,000 in income tax on the prize, and then another $5,000 “gift tax” for doing a nice thing in giving Butler the keys.
“That's a $5,000 gift tax on top of a $13,500 income tax on the truck, for a combined federal tax hit of $18,500,” said ATR, headed by Washington tax foe Grover Norquist.

If I were Brady, I would pay it when Al Sharpton pays his!
4:05 Brady has white privilege. He doesn't get the same perks as Sharpton.
In all seriousness, I agree. But, I'd like to add that list of Federal employees, including members of Congress.
sure. Just as soon as every worthless crack head welfare tit sucker gets of their a**, gets a job and contributes as well.
No problem.
Our government is a gigantic pile of DOG DOOKIE.
You should run for president. You have my vote!!!!!!!!
Thank you for saying what so many of us are thinking.
Never let a good deed go unpunished.
I think that he can afford it.
Just goes to show, you can cheat the NFL all you want, but nothing gets past the IRS
I thiink he can afford it
Once again, the average American idiot misses the point entirely. Let's say you make $200K a year. Ok..I want you to give me $60 thousand of it for absolutely no reason. Why? Well...because you can afford it...right?
7:42. Agree absolutely 100%. This is about the government reaching into our pockets when're they feel like it. Brady is only an example because of his public profile. The point is it's happenening to all of us every single day just on a smaller scale. To say it's ok because "he can afford it" just bypasses the core issue.
If this doesn't illustrate to the average Joe why the IRS should be disbanded, the I don't know what will.
A act of generosity gets rewarded by a "gift tax"? How many times has that truck been taxed and how many people are in the tax chain for the one truck???
There is still time to hang them all.
Or just keep cheering.
That's a lot less than he's paying the equipment handler to keep his mouth shut.
NFL players should be elected just like government officials since the game has gone way beyond just being a sport. On the Monday AM following the Super Bowl no one would even discuss the game.Am I missing something or is football no longer just a game? For weeks every single media source dwelled on the ball issue while millions tuned in.Anyone who seriously considers baseball "America's favorite pastime" is mistaken.
