Delmar Redistricting Map

Joe,
Can you please share this map with your readers?

The proposed changes put Delmar children on track to become WiHi Grads. This does not bode well for the continuation of the Bi-State agreement in the years ahead. One question I have is if a home is redistricted out of the Delmar District then what happens to current Delmar High School students. will they have to switch to WiHi next year?! And I'm concerned about potential harm to property values as being in the Delmar District is a definite plus.

Thank you,

Delmar residents need to go to the meeting this Thursday and express your opinion. They have tried this in the past and have failed in their attempts. Lets show them once again we will not be quiet about this topic. This is from someone who does not have any children.

Anonymous said...

No all residents of Wicomico County need to go to these meetings and tell that Scumbag Fredericksen that we don't need to be redistricted so that he can get new schools and so that the high achieving students can bring up the failing school grades of the thugs.

Anonymous said...

If you think high achieving students are ever considered, think again.

Anonymous said...

I moved to Delmar 10 years ago so that my children could get a good education. All Delmar residents should be angered by this and should show up to the meeting regardless if your child or grandchild is affected.

Hopefully an elected school board is coming - and we can get rid of Freddie the Freeloader!

Its a scam to influence the statistics (dropout rates, discipline stats, demographics, etc.)
SOMEONE has to make the gangbanging thugs in Wicomico County appear less intrusive, less threatening, and less dangerous. If some children get beat up, lose interest, or join some of these wanna-be tough guy gangs, you think Frederickson gives a crap?
What happened to their "it's for the children, for God's sake!!!" mantra???
There is an agenda here and it has absolutely NOTHING to do with "children".

If any Delmar parent allows their child to go to a Salisbury school they are a fool. I would move to Delaware so wicomico wouldn't get anymore of my taxes!

Anonymous said...

There is nothing wrong with Wicomico High School.

Dear Readers,

With regard to this topic, if you are not in attendance to voice your views and concerns, I can assure you that the BOE WILL MOVE AHEAD WITH ITS PROPOSAL WITHOUT FURTHER INPUT. If there should be an overwhelming display of concern and viewpoints, it will most assuredly be most difficult for the BOE to do so.

Regards,

Paladin

Redistricting is not much different than annexation....if you buy out in the county to avoid the city - and they wrap their limits around you - you're screwed!

Fight it like it is the plague - cuz it is!

Anonymous said...

Thanks. I needed a good laugh. Try their idiot principal for starters.

Anonymous said...

They don't care about your ideas. They will do what they think is best for their agenda.

Anonymous said...

Parents should decide which school they want their children to go to.

Anonymous said...

Isn't grade 5 at Delmar Middle/High School? How are 31 of them going to North and 3 to Pittsville?

Anonymous said...

3:12 PM, where have you been? There is everything wrong with Wicomico High School, everything!

Anonymous said...

Here's how I see it. Delmar DE pays 10x the amount for their children to attend Delmar Elem (in Wicomico County / Delmar MD). By decreasing the number of students attending Delmar Middle / High Schools, Frederickson can pocket all of the revenue and DO NOTHING to utilize the funding to improve upon his County's poor performing schools. ALL MUST BE IN ATTENDANCE! If the voter ID card says Delmar, if you pay Delmar taxes and shop at the Delmar stores - the Law between states must be exampled, which is why ALL SHOULD ATTEND and STOP THIS CHARADE!! I, along with about 30+ parents will be there - how about YOU??

new schools are kool!!!!!

That's how stupid you people are and the people running those schools...

EVERY PERSON thinks that if it is new it is kool, if it is new it is good, if it is new they will come...

Exactly the point, it is all about money as everything is nothing more and nothing less...

Everyone thinks a new school will make better grades for kids, everyone thinks a new school will help kids graduate and to show up to school and class...

I assure you 100% they will go through with this and I assure you 100% your taxes will go up to pay for those schools and I assure you 100% your taxes will go up period!!!!! don't forget the new gas tax will be higher in a few days or weeks...

Also, you dumb asses are forgetting, this is for the Maryland side not the Delaware side of Delmar...

Oh but lets not forget how they have schools built, they all build a school that can only hold 1200 kids yet you have 1500+ going to the school and in a year or two of the school being built it will have 2000 kids... So they waste more money to build satellite buildings and then in 5 to 10 years they will want another new school...

you all need to understand this is a hidden sneaky way to raise your taxes, your land tax that pollit has been trying to do for so long... you know get rid of that 2% cap or whatever it is...

When will you people see that there is an agenda here at play and it is called taking from you anyway they can and taxes are the only legal means to do so... Why do you think everything cost so damn much? why do you keep getting taxed and fee'ed??? Why do you think they keep taking taking and taking but never giving or fixing a single damn thing??? Btu you all are so happy to have your money stolen, you all are so fucking happy to have your money taken for the kids who are not even being helped...

you people are fools... plain and simple...

Anonymous said...

No one is going to show up... NONE of you give a damn, only only paper or the internet comments do you all act like you give a damn....

Anonymous said...

Yes I will be there.. .

Anonymous said...

I urge you all to show up.. .if you don't think this affects you or your kids.. think again.. .It affects Delmar De and Wicomico county.. .its your kids, property and taxes. ..get involved.

Anonymous said...

I predict it will be a very crowded meeting! I work with some parents who will be affected. It is all about money and no one wants their kids going to Wicomico senior high or any other inner city school. Its all about money and having funds allocated within the financially failing Wicomico County districts. I know some are planning on home schooling their kids before allowing them to be bused far away to go to these under performing schools.

Anonymous said...

4:09- it's on my calendar!!

Anonymous said...

My kids go to Wicomico High School and I could not be happier. It's a great school. No I'm not on public assistance, yes I am very successful in the business community and a business owner. Most of you get on here and talk crap about things you have no clue about.

Anonymous said...

Parents do show up at these meetings...in droves.

Anonymous said...

I don't understand why the BOE expects parent to be pushed to having their kids moved from a school/school district with higher quality ratings (Delmar school district 8 out of 10) to schools that don't even come close to that (Salisbury area schools 3-5 out of 10)other than the facts/agenda stated before, totally f#$! ridiculous. For reference check great schools or Trulia for school ratings.

Anonymous said...

Someone needs to ask WHY Wi Middle and East were chosen to be closed when Glen Avenue has far fewer kids? If the central office has the skeleton crew they say they have (hilarious), why is something the size of East Salisbury needed to house them? Alternative School will be there but in portables. What is the school system doing for below average kids? Every single thing they do. Starting school in August, mixed-ability classes where most kids get no instruction, slack discipline, endless personnel assigned to intervene for those who won't work or behave and on and on. Taxpayers are sick of it.

Anonymous said...

Can we get the maps for the east end of the county?

Anonymous said...

You must not be from Delmar.

Anonymous said...

Good. I'm glad your happy. We want to be happy also.

Anonymous said...

no, i am not from delmar. but my very happy, doing wonderfully honors student at parkside ... might be sent to wihi for sophomore year. and that is so not ok with me.

Anonymous said...

This will impact Delmar, DE residents too! Kids that have gone to school with yours for years will be forced to move schools because WCBOE says so. This will be splitting up long-term friendships. This harms both sides of the community.

This is WCBOE's way of slowly removing some of the opposition. What do the DELAWARE residents think will happen when WCBOE decides to NOT RENEW the Bi-State agreement? The few kids that look like they're safe (those surrounding the elementary school) will be the next ones moved into Wicomico Middle & High. If that agreement does NOT renew, guess what?!?---the DELAWARE residents will NOT have an elementary school. Wake up people! The State of DE has been pushing for years to consolidate Delmar with Laurel & do away with elected school boards. The Delaware residents will quickly end up with a similar mess on the other side of the state line. No school board to hold accountable and no say in where their kids go to school. Can you see the property values decreasing on both sides of the line, I can.

Even if your kids are not slated to be cut this time, you need to be aware---It won't be long before the entire Delmar school district is destroyed. This is the 1st step toward that.

The community needs to speak up NOW! Both sides of the line, elementary, middle & high kids, teachers, staff & property owners. They should ALL be speaking up as loud as they can---or in a few short years it will be too late for everyone.

Redistricting needs to be done. The BOE hasn't done this since 1997, and it was a mess back then, too, but everyone survived. Stop whining.

Anonymous said...

6:40 Whining? Really? That's your contribution to this issue?
This matters to many people and if it's no interest to you then there's no need for your comment.

6:01 youre exactly correct, this move affects Wicomico county and the De side of Delmar, dont let them fool ya. If they succeed with this move the next move will be with the in town kids...they are not fooling some of us. I urge everyone of you reading this article and these comments to get to those meetings. Its not only your kids its your community...property values and taxes are at stake here to, and for the person that said they like WiHi, I think you have bumped your head. youre not fooling us. youre probably one of those on the school board that proposed this crap...again youre not fooling us. we know WiHi is a crap hole for kids, and thats why we do not want our kids going there, and if the truth be known you not only dont have a kid going there you never did and would not have your kid going there either! now fess up Because nobody in their right mind likes nor wants their kid going to that school. people raise hell over this. Dont let them get away with it. I know i for one will be to that meeting..and i urge the rest of you to get up get out and go. Dont sit and let them do this to your kids. This is all the more reason as to why we need a elected school board. If they dont do what the people want we can boot them out!

Anonymous said...

6:40...no we will not stop whining! No the redistricting does not need to be done. This is our kids at stake here. You must be on of the idiots that proposed this. People has a right to speak up about their children. I hope the elected board comes so if you are one of them your sorry behind can be kicked out!

Anonymous said...

Why isn't Mary Ashanti whining about this???

Anonymous said...

be present at this meeting. make your voice heard. period.

Anonymous said...

Im all for it. This takes my house out of the wi middle and into pittsville. Wi middle is a hell hole run by incompetent fools. It cost me big time getting my kids out of there into private schools.

I saw this coming!!! Delmar Elementary is very overcrowding! Why didnt the school board, politicians and real estate developers invested in expansion of Delmar Elementary? With the population explosion in Delmar, Md 7 new housing developments within the last 10 years with little or no infrastructures to support growth, redistricting is inevitable. What is a workable solution? With the property taxes collected from delmar md resident use it to expand Delmar Elementary. I paid $1658 in property taxes in Delmar & 1800 in Wicomico Property taxes. If this restricting plan go through this will be last straw, I will move out of Wicomico County at the end of this school year.

Anonymous said...

Folks who are saying this will not affect me wrong. If WCBOE decides not go renew the bistate agreement, the implication: 1. Delmar Elementary will be an elementary school for MD residents only. 2. DMHS could be converted to an elementary and middle school. 3 DHS could partner with Laurel. Laurel High School is a new state of the art school scheduled to open this August. Or Delmar school District could contruct a new wing to housed the High school. Delmar Md resident lets swing into action and let our voices

This is all being done before the elected school board passes. Have you noticed how they have increased these meetings and are changing plans. They don't have a plan. The BOE is just trying to find a weak place to impact. It may be your community. They tried with Pittsville and Willards and were unsuccessful. Stand up Delmar and do what is right. Don't let the BOE walk all over you. Pittsville and Willards communities need to be ready next. The system is broken. I was talking with someone who shared with me how the BOE is always trying to find a way to pull wool over someone's eyes. In the end it is a child that suffers.

This will KILL my property value.

Create an petition cause that's what I'm going to do tommorow when I go to parkside high school in class. I don't want to go to wihi and etc. if no one is complaining about it then don't do it. They need to do the same at delmar pittsville Willard's as well cause I'm not going to let this happen. I will email the superintendent tonight and throw some words at him in that email.

Anonymous said...

I hope this goes thru. Then maybe we can balance out WiHi, and have 3 Highschools on even playing fields. It's what you make of it. If everyone would stop trying to get special exception to get out of WiHi, it wouldn't be in the state it is.

Anonymous said...

Another option... Why does the West Side go all the way to Bennett, when it's much more convenient to take 50 from Pemberton Dr, Or Nanitcoke to get to Wicomico High School....

Anonymous said...

8:48 Your point will be addressed Thursday.

Anonymous said...

I don't blame parents for wanting their children to go to the school that they originally attended. I think they should speak up.
That being said, I live in the Wi High district and have two high schoolers there. I was dreading it. It has turned out to be a wonderful experience. It's not a hellhole, and it's not the "inner city." It's a good school with great teachers, and my children are getting a great education full of AP courses, sports, and music.
I hope you can stay exactly where you want to be, but if you can't, Wi High isn't the disaster its made out to be.

Because he wants higher achieving students to bring up the grades on the nonachieving thugs. Wicomico inner city and Title I schools have been failing AYP for several years and this way he can improve the grades because his plan isn't working. Why do you think they did away with the Magnet Program at Pemberton Elementary School. DUH!!

Anonymous said...

I know people get tired of hearing about how Delmar is such a great community. I also realize that if you don't live in Delmar, you don't understand, so I forgive all the "quit whining" comments. If Wi-Hi works for you, I'm glad. That is what you are used to. But you must realize the uniqueness of our situation that no other school in the Wicomico School system has the fortune to experience. Our kids go to school together from K-12. They play Little League together. They play Pop Warner together. They all go to the same park, are served by the same Fire Department (who are very active in our community). They have formed lasting bonds. Because of the friendships and camaraderie, many of those students choose to remain in Delmar because they want their own children to have the same experience they did. Many students become teachers in the same schools they went to. Those same bonds are conducive to an excellent learning environment which is why the high school is ranked one of the top schools in the state. We are partnered with Wilmington College in an early college credit program. Our drop out rate is next to zero. Our athletes are exceptional and EVERYONE comes out to support them whether they have a child playing or not. I daresay the same can be said for any school in Salisbury. Our children are our future and we would like the WCBOE to recognize this as much as the Delmar School District does. The last time redistricting was an issue, the Delmar School District reached out and came up with a solution. They took an ENTIRE grade to the high school because they understood the significant negative impact redistricting would have had on our community and our students. I hope that everything can be worked out so that our schools and community can remain intact.

If the Board wants the easiest and cheapest ways to "mix" students of various groups (as they say they do) then redistrict Nithsdale into Wi Hi and Nutters development into Prince Street and/or Glen Avenue. Less distance, less expense so why not? Gosh, why not indeed??

Anonymous said...

I thought kids in the Nutters Golf Course development went to Prince Street. That has to be closer to them than Fruitland is. Since Prince had great difficulty meeting testing standards and even had to offer school choice to its students, why wouldn't the board send the kids from Nutters to Prince where they belong? If they really do go to Fruitland, who got a benefit from that?

Anonymous said...

The BOE is always yapping about the transportation budget and now they want to send kids who live less than 1.5 miles from Delmar Elementary to a school that's 6 miles away? How are they going to pay for the extra buses/drivers?
My daughter has 24 kids in a class, is that really considered over-crowded nowadays? When I went to school we always had around 30ish kids in a classroom.
