Several GOP lawmakers have proposed a new bill that would require photo identification to use food stamps.
Arguing that taxpayers lose $858 million a year on food stamp fraud, they say the bill will ensure that food stamp benefits actually belong to the person who is using them by requiring retailers to check the photo ID of a person every time they attempt to use the federal program.
One of the co-sponsors, Rep. Jim Bridenstine (R-OK), joined Tucker Carlson on "Fox and Friends" this morning to explain his support of the bill.
"I think it's perfectly appropriate when the taxpayers are losing almost a billion dollars a year to fraud in the SNAP program - which is the food stamp program. I think it's perfectly appropriate to require a low hurdle like an ID," Bridenstine said.

A great idea. When you take from the taxpayer you need to be held accountable.
I agree that requiring an ID would be a great and appropriate requirment for using food stamps. I wish they would take it further and require a drug test whenever food stamps were used.
This will never happen......because it makes too much sense!
2:51 - some places are...and it seems to be catching on!
And I would like to see the SNAP program supply basic foods in line with the FDA nutrition guidelines: x amount of meats/fish, x amount of dairy, x amount of carbs, x amount of green leafy vegetables, etc. Hell, if we're going to feed people, why don't we feed them right?

Good point. If they are going to make the schools feed the children "healthy" food they should only be allowed to buy that from the stores as well.
Oh and this crap of going to Fat Boys or any other seafood store and getting steamed crabs and shrimp isn't the idea that these were intended for I don't think. Or buying the cuts of meat that only the food stamp users can buy cause no one else can afford them, doesn't seem quite right to me either.
Just like voting, it would impose a monumental hurdle to many poor who have no means of obtaining an I.D., and serve to in fact deny SNAP benefits to a large portion of the population.
Right?
Wrong!
We need a Voter ID requirement!
If kids are in school getting free lunch and free breakfast, deduct the costs of those meals from the food stamp allotment. Why should taxpayers pay twice?
Your photo ID, should be required for any program you apply for period. This would eliminate fraud.
Your NOT Supposed to get hot food with ebt cards.
Make them keep receipts of what was purchased before they get the next months stamps like you have do for us small business owners. It will create jobs and no receipt no more food. They already get them tax free.
