HONOLULU — Hawaii Gov. Neil Abercrombie lost his bid for a second term Saturday, as Democrats instead opted for a little-known state senator to represent the party in the November general election.
Abercrombie is the first sitting U.S. governor to lose renomination since 2010.
As primary results came in showing Abercrombie badly trailing David Ige, the special Senate primary between incumbent Brian Schatz and challenger Colleen Hanabusa was still too close to call.
