Spice Company McCormick Is Considering 4 States For Its New HQ

McCormick & Co. Inc. has opened its headquarters search up to the entire mid-Atlantic.

McCormick is considering sites of between 300,000 and 350,000 square feet in Maryland, Delaware, southern Pennsylvania and Northern Virginia, according to real estate documents obtained by the Baltimore Business Journal. The search area is well beyond the scope of options CEO Alan D. Wilson discussed in March.

McCormick, a spice company with $4 billion in revenue, is one of Baltimore County’s largest employers. It employs between 600 and 700 workers spread across four buildings in Sparks and Hunt Valley. The company wants to move office workers — not factory — into a new headquarters by April 2018.

Get out of MARYLAND !!

That will be a big loss to both Baltimore and the state of Maryland. How many more business will it take for them to open their eyes? You can't tax your way to prosperity!

I'll bet they will move out of Maryland because of the rain tax.

Given that most of the readers of this blog have limited comprehension skills, please allow me to give you the reader's digest version of this article. McCormick is moving it's corporate office. The corporate office is where the executives and support staff work. The executives make the big money. The production sites (where they make the stuff you buy) are staying in MD. The employees in the production sites make average wages. The loss to MD will be the taxes from the big salaries of the executives. Nothing to do with rain tax since the productions sites will remain in MD. It is about people with money leaving MD to avoid the ever increasing taxes. Can't say that I blame them since we left MD several years ago for a state with no income tax. If you are a republican and still live in MD, you have no one to blame but yourself. It's never going to be a red state and the eastern shore has no say in the matter. There are too many democrats on the western shore that cancel out your vote. Get out while you can!

Guess they are tired of a blind eye to black violence and crime in the Baltimore county areas. Might as well also escape tax Hell and pick the PA, DE or VA sites. They probably just put in the MD choice as positive PR.

This article is off. McCormick employees approx. 2400 in MD. 800 of those employees are based out of the headquarters in Sparks, MD which is what they SAY needs consolidation. Just 3 months ago, McC was saying it would love to stay in the Balto region, after all their "roots are in the area", but Southern PA WAS an option. PA/YorkCo officials refused to comment. This is a sure sign a deal is in the works.
Now VA and DE are in the picture. This is how it works in the corporate world. McC's is shopping around their deal with Southern PA.
To say the plant, distribution center, mill and the research facility will stay in MD is premature 4:10. Those of us who are informed know how it works in the corporate world and no doubt the whole operation will end up moving, most likely out of state.
