Oklahoma Inmate Dies Of Heart Attack After Botched Execution

McALESTER, Okla. - The execution of a convicted murderer was halted Tuesday night when the delivery of a new lethal injection combination was botched, but the man died later of a heart attack, the head of the Oklahoma Department of Corrections said.

The execution of Clayton Lockett, 38, began at 6:23 p.m. when official administered the first of three drugs. A doctor declared Lockett to be unconscious at 6:33 p.m.

About three minutes later, however, Lockett began breathing heavily, writhing on the gurney and straining to lift his head from the pillow. The condemned man could be seen speaking, CBS affiliate KOTV in Tulsa reported.

"It was extremely difficult to watch," said Lockett's attorney, David Autry.

I was under the impression that you were suppose to die after you were executed.

Oh cry me a river. His victim suffered way more than that. He should have been executed in the same manner he killed his victim. Do the crime, do the time. You gave up your right to anything when you committed the crime.

who really cares how he died or if he suffered. I'm sure the girl he killed when peacefully! The more he suffered, the better!

RAPED AND KILLED AN 11 MONTH old baby Girl.

This piece of sh*t should die a hundred deaths.

This botched execution by Oklahoma will guarantee that sometime soon the Supreme Court will declare capital punishment unconstitutional. You will have the idiots in Oklahoma to blame for it.

Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't a botched execution one where the criminal lives?

If that dumb attorney for the murders thinks 100 mg of midazolam is an overdosing quantity then what the hell does he think 500 mg are?

Reminds me of the scene in the movie "The Green Mile". The botch may have been planned. Still will be nothing compared to Hell when he gets there.

And why are prisoners given a physical prior to being executed?

Actually this guy shot a 19 year old girl and watched two of his buddies bury her alive. It was someone else who tortured the 11 month old. Both are poor excuses for human beings and no pity for either.

The only problem I have with this is that the guy did not suffer ENOUGH and for LONGER. Boo hoo that he writhed around...how did that 19 yr old he shot then was buried alive make out? I bet she suffered a heck of a lot longer than this piece of human garbage.

What he did to get on death row has absolutely nothing to do with it.
The problem is that it comes dangerously close to cruel and unusual punishment, a clear statement in our constitution.
This one could lead to the abolishment of capital punishment across the US.

3:13 Nothing to do with it? REALLY? I sure killing an innocent baby is a "right" to you but this THING reaping what IT sowed is Oh so terrible.

Murderers should be subjected to the same form of killing that their victims were put thru. Like those crazy bitches that drown their kids, lock them in cars and vans, and drown them! In this case, shoot the bastard in the guts, and bury him alive! Eye for an eye, exactly as they did it!!

You either believe in the constitution or you don't. Cannot have it both ways.

I truly don't see what the big deal is. He deserved to feel pain, just like any person being put the death should. We show entirely too much mercy to those who absolutely don't deserve it.

Just more proof that we should return to the hangman's noose.

A 30 caliber round is less than a dollar and it's all over with in a few seconds.

I'm certainly not crying a river for this piece of human garbage. A bullet to the brain is cheaper and much more effective.

Should have been publicly done. Maybe the death sentence doesn't deter crime (except for the ones who GET the death penalty --- THEIR crime live is deterred), but when people actually get to see what happens to those who murder, rape, and torture people, well, THAT would certainly deter a few wanna-be thugs.
Public executions are NOT "cruel or unusual". Whats cruel and unusual are people (I use that term very loosely) who think burying people alive is okay.
Sometimes, ya just gotta set an example.

I'm sure he got what he deserved.

And how did his victim die?? Should have been ground alive and fed to the other death row human garbage!!!!

Umm.. Wasn't he supposed to die?
