A Viewer Writes: Elks / Fire Dept Fight
A member of the Fruitland fire dept severely beaten by African American birthday party goers at elks Lodge. A small fight broke out between birthday party goers at the elks Lodge and A member of the fruitland fire dept assisted in trying to separate the two Black males of the birthday party downstairs. The fruitland fire dept were having they’re banquet upstairs at the same time. After trying to help break up the fight, The fire dept member was attacked by a crowd of the birthday party goers and severely beaten. I understand that was a police officer in site and would not exit his vehicle to assist. The fire dept member was taken to the hospital with multiple wounds.

Par for course for African American party goers. They wreck havoc like this a lot. It's why the Town of Selbyville passed an ordinance no alcohol served after 11pm. Millsboro VFW (or one of those places) had a bad experience with AA party goers.
No one should intervene. Let them kill each other.
If there was a SPD officer there...and he didn't intervene isn't there a way to find out who it was.....and have them fired? What good is a coward cop?
As a former officer of the law and Marine I would NEVER sit by and watch another officer be assaulted while I sat by in my patrol car. SPD does have a very politically correct group though and this was a real world situation not a college party...the rest of the story?
What difference does it make if the people or the officer were colored or white?

A fight happened. A Fireman got injured. Next time, stay out of the fight.
Wait! There was a fire department banquet going on and one of them got whooped? Why didn't the entire fire department step in and help their brother.
So much for the brotherhood in the fire department.
why on earth would a lone white firefighter jump into a fight with a room of black partiers? I hear that it was a party for a thirteen year old, that show they were able to rent the room from the elks. Once the party gets into action, other people start showing up and there is a cover charged at the door by the party holders. Thats where it gets out of hand. The Elks should never have let that happen!!!! And where where the other firefighters????

This fire fighter was outside by himself picking up equipment from the banquet when he saw a young male running for his life from about 50 other males, he stepped in to help stop the beating of this young man.
Firefighters take a oath to protect life and property, that is why he tried to help this young black male. Another young black male initiated the fight with the fireman of which all 50 to 100 decided to join in by hitting and kicking the defenseless firefighter who was knocked to the ground kicked repeatedly.
Attempted murder is what I would call the actions of this mob.
Our police officers need to take a good hard look at the gangs and violence in this county and how they will handle this in the future. Maybe use lights, pepper spray, etc might just save someone's life in the future.
What exactly does the fact any of the participants was black have to do with this? I've seen plenty of white only bar fights.
Race has nothing to do with this unless the roles were reversed and then it would be a hate crime.

Word on the street is, there are bookings for "children's birthday parties," but then the group that turns out is an adult party. Not a one-time occurence.
Mobs and gang attacks need to be charged criminally.
maybe for all of you out there who are so curious why it's necessary to mention it's a black party should look at the stats regarding crimes here in Salisbury and then wonder why ppl are mentioning it was a black party? Let's compare Deer Harbor and Dover or Light Street crime rates. Come on now...
If the officer didn't want to get out of his car then he could have, at the very least, called for back up. Amazing. But then again, I tried calling the State Police Barracks on a Friday night & got an automated recording & put into voice-mail.
10:48 AM what you are describing is a socio-economical correlation to crime, not a race based correlation.
Right. Socio-economical, huh. You mean the families (proper term) of Deer Harbor, who WORK for a living, insist their kids do well in school, don't tolerate their kids hanging out in the street in front of their house at 2 in the morning, and frown upon prison and single motherhood as careers for their children are the same as the single mother households of Church St, Dover St., etc? Its just social and economic factors? How about cultural values? Morals?
Standards and expectations?
NO kids are on the corner in my neighborhood yelling at cars going by. If there WERE, me or some other parent would be straightening THAT out fast. Compare the teen pregnancy rate of the respective neighborhoods. Drop out rate. Criminal records. You make CHOICES in life and you prepare your children for the future. But you don't get to make BAD choices and blame some "socio-economic" boogeyman for those choices, as if you weren't around when your teenage son was coming home at 4AM and flashing you a knot, or your 13 yr old daughter was getting picked up in a car by 2 18 year old men and coming home at 1am. Pregnant. Choices. Morality. PARENTING. Personal responsibility.
As an old friend used to say, "some cats got it and some cats don't."
