Maryland is for millionaires, according to wealth research firm Phoenix Marketing International.
Its annual list ranking states by millionaires says 167,287 Maryland households, or 7.7 percent of all households have investable assets of $1 million or more, the highest concentration of millionaires per capita in the nation.
It is the third consecutive year Maryland has ranked No. 1, bumping Hawaii from the top spot in 2011.
Virginia ranks No. 7, at 6.64 percent of all households. When the District is included with states, it ranks No. 10, at 6.10 percent of all households.

Well, it's obvious they didn't get their money by being smart, or they'd be out of this place. Probably politicians and lobbyist.
Kind of blows the theory that the rich are leaving the state for lower taxes.
It just said they live here - doesn't mean they end up paying taxes here...most folks with that kind of money have good tax accountants to reduce their contribution!
It also says they have assets, not income, of over one million. Once you get it they can't keep taxing you, except in the case of real estate.
Their major assets (expensive cars, boats and airplanes) are probably registered in the names of shell companies in DE. That way they don't face the initial sales / use taxes....
All because of K street.
11:55-This is misleading because it's households and not residents of MD. I can off hand think of several very wealthy people who maintain a household in MD but primary residence is elsewhere.
