Smart meters at work?

How can that happen, you sold me (jammed down my throat) the "smart meter"!

Looks like you should have opted out. I did. Hate those smart meters .

Our power went out early this am about 5:30am. It was out for about 90 minutes. We do not have a smart meter......yet. We do still keep getting nasty notes from Delmarva power telling us how we are using more electric than our neighbors. Most neighbors have 1 person living in the home. We have 4!

I am thinking there is a smart meter scan going on with Delmarva Power.

About 3 weeks ago when I was at work a family member at my house noticed a Delmarva power person in my yard. He asked him what he was doing and he stated that he was about to install a smart meter.

My family member knew how I felt about a smart meter and told him that he was not allowed to install it. He even gave the guy from Delmarva Power a bit of hell for not even knocking on the door to inform us of the installation.

Well our Delmarva power bill arrived in the mail for the month and its $400 !!!!!

That's insane as during the fall and spring our power usage is at an all time low since we are not running AC or Heat. It wasn't until recently that we even turned heat on when it dipped into the 20's and even then it was in just the living room and bathroom.

How did we wind up with a $400 electric bill in the fall when we never even hit $400 all summer using AC throughout the whole house. My wife called them today and they had her give them the numbers on the meter and they said it seem accurate.

There is no way we used more power last month than what we did all summer. Nothing has changed in our home.

The only thing we can think of is that the Delmarva power guy was pissed by being turned away from installing the smart meter and also getting an ear full for not even knocking on the door to announce he was going to install the device and could have recorded a false meter reading.

Also When my wife did call Delmarva power they made it a point to tell her that if we did have a Smart Meter they would be able to better determine why our bill was so high but since we have a standard one we are just going to have to deal with it and pay the bill.

Seems to me they are trying to make an example as to why we need this meter but nailing us with an insane bill and holding that over our head as a reason to get this intrusive device.

They misread my meter a few months ago. I got a 500 dollar bill from them. It was a month that we hardly ran the AC and we never use our dryer in the summertime if possible. As soon as I got the bill I walked out and checked my meter and the we hadn't even reach the number on the meter that was listed on our bill. On your bill it should tell you the last month meter reading and this month meter reading. It should also tell you if it was an actual meter reading or a guesstimate. They corrected mine once I called them. They didn't have a choice since the numbers didn't match. I still don't see how my electric bills are so high.

i was told by the "powers that be" at the state level that it WAS NOT A LAW that we had to accept any smart meters from anyone, including dp&l. dp&l seems to be bullying it's customers as well as lying to you.

when I checked with the people at choptank electric, they confirmed what I just said. in addition any piece of paper you sign for dp&l is NOT worth anything; only the paper it's written on.

people you need to start to read your own meters and keep good records.

we're with choptank and we always read our own meters on the same day each month and send in the latest reading so we can be billed. it's NOT hard to do and this way you know every month what you're using. just do it.

AGAIN; dp&l is not being truthful regarding these "dumb meters".

Oh, but wait. If you have a smart meter you will get free health care. Just ask Obama. And if you get two the second one comes free. You just pay the shipping and handling.

This is standard practice for them. They have been using that smart meter mantra regarding bad meter readings for YEARS.
All the neighbors fought with them and finally we filed a complained to the PUC about DPL saying on the bills they were actual readings when they were not.

They were forced to send out a reader and everyone in the neighborhood ended up with a $10 monthly bill because they had lied for so long and over estimated for the good part of a year.
Other than that the PUC did nothing. They are in bed together.

We've fought with them many times over our severely over estimated readings.

They try the lie "you have to pay it". But my understanding is legally they have to take what you read and send out a new bill.
Sadly you have to keep calling until you get a person that will actually do their job and help you.

Fact is most of them are too lazy to do that and want to make you wait until the next reading.

Customer service was located in Dover DE, they were a rude ignorant bunch that could give a crap about you. They are not your neighbors on RT 13 & Naylor Mill.
There are some good people that work there, just not in the customer service department, they are all just a bunch of liars.
