Food Bank Services 'Skyrocketing'

The Maryland Food Bank is working harder to keep up with a growing number of people asking for help at agencies such as food pantries and community kitchens.

Kate Sam with the food bank says recent cuts in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or "food stamps," are taking a heavy toll.

And the lines are getting longer at places were Food Bank help is made available to individuals and families.

"Those agencies are telling us they are seeing their client base double overnight," Sam said.

They want more free food for thanksgiving, so they can sell their snap for cash for the holiday and get another big screen tv, xbox and other big toys

Yeah, go to Costco or other places for the high priced Butterball or simply pick up a bird a Walmart for half the prices. Enjoy the low prices before the liberals help raise minimum wages which will for higher prices and even more laid off Americans for unemployment tax free immigrants.

Go to Vine Street in Salisbury and watch the vehicles they drive. They are freeloaders. I've seen them take a stolen shopping cart from their SUV in order to collect free food.

Say what you like, my hat is tipped to ALL of the people working as hard as they do to help those in need. My Grandmother always used to say, "Someone needs it more than you do".

Just life your life as best as you can and know that one day we will all have to answer to a much higher power.

The government takes to much from people, There's nothing left to donate. Thank Obama.

9:09 you probably don't realize how true your post is, Government has taken it all and it wants to be the giver of society.

Reduce food stamps to families by an amount proportionate to the number of their children being fed for free at school.

I have no problem helping people ,but why does people who already get like 200 dollars a week from food stamps need more to feed like 3 people.

A sense of community needs to come back to Salisbury starting with the leadership.

Unless you have worked in the food bank, you will see it is more about a freebie grab than helping the needy. There are MANY fake organizations that go there and get free food for their families and "church" dinners. They whine and complain when a certain food is not available or when there is a limitation as to what they can order because they want all the free they can get.
I acknowledge that there are good people out there trying to make a difference. Churches that house and feed the homeless in the winter is a very good community program, which has nothing to do with the food bank and is supported by parishioners and local businesses. But more times than not, there are a circle of people that make a weekly pilgrimage to the local food bank, for nothing other than the fact that they get their food for free because they started a fake organization.
It's a sad fact, but then it is a government run program.
The local food bank does not service the community at large, they only service "groups" on their approved list. If you call for food they will pick ONE name off a list they have and tell you to go there. Then those people only distribute what they want to give up.
