Chief Duncan To Unveil Crime Reduction Initiative TODAY

Salisbury Police Chief, Barbara Duncan will unveil "Operation East Side" at the Mayor’s Neighborhood Roundtable discussion on Tuesday, November 19, 2013. Chief Duncan will be conducting a 30 minute presentation on the crime reduction initiative modeled after the High Point Crime Reduction Model used by the High Point, NC Police Department and the High Point community.

Chief Duncan will explain the success the Salisbury Police Department has had using a modified version of the model with the youth in the Doverdale neighborhood. The Department is looking to repeat the success of the initiative in Doverdale for adult residents in both the Dovedale and Church Street neighborhoods.

“The High Point, NC model has been replicated throughout the country. In addition to our Salisbury Safe Streets Initiative, Chief Duncan’s "Operation East Side" brings all facets of the community to the table to reduce the amount of young people entering the criminal justice system, and reducing rates of recidivism. Our Church Street and Doverdale neighborhoods will benefit from this close collaboration with police, the Wicomico States Attorney, the NAACP, local clergy, and residents,” said Mayor James Ireton, Jr.

The Mayor’s Neighborhood Roundtable will be held in Room 306 of the GOB at 1:00pm on Tuesday, November 19, 2013.

Why doesn't she begin by charging the kids in the rap video because the guns were real. Isn't it funny that nothing has happened with that issue.

She's twice the man Webster was! It took many years for Salisbury to become what it is, it will take time to turn it around also. I'll give her more time before I judge.

Why doesn't she just declare committing a crime illegal similar to what they want to do with guns? Should be just as effective.

I was wondering if they would be performing for the opening ceremonies...

I will give credit where credit is deserved and Mary Ashanti and the NAACP did (and very strongly) condemn the rap video done by the local youths.

What many of you don't realize is that crime in Salisbury and Wicomico County is extremely high right now. PROACTIVE steps like Chief Duncan is taking is the right way to handle it, head on. At least she's NOT saying there are no gangs and there is no crime in Salisbury like the last Police Chief tried to get away with.

NC is a abides by the Second Amendment it has a castle doctrine ...stand your ground.... and concealed carry so any attempts to curb crime is nothing but lip service...this won't work in Maryland the since the crimmanal has the upper hand here..MD SUFFERS FROM LIBTARD SYNDROME..what will work is some criminals thugs in body bags

Duncan has a tough row to hoe, as Braunsweiger left her with total garbage and no tools to work with. God bless her in her efforts. Doverdale is a saveable neighborhood, as opposed to the Westerly areas, which need help as well.

Kep on keepin' on, Duncan! We are behind you on this!

Maybe the chief, mayor, and the priest can borrow trooper 4 and fly around Salisbury and dump water out the door. You know, blessing?
