Joe,
Word has it that Wicomico County Library personnel are being required to attend Obamacare training as a "In Service Day" library training session. I'd imagine state CPU's are in effect.
Also the computer labs are being used every Thursday to train Obamacare navigators for local County Health Departments.

What I want to know is when are our premiums going to be "reduced by 14% to 20%?" After all Obama promised this would be a result of obamacare.
Sounds like a proactive use of time.
GOOD NEWS... If we have this and there is no way around it... better the devil you know!!
You think Wicomico is the only county in the USA that has tax dollars hard at work with Obamacare?
Please let me put this rumor to rest.
Wicomico Public Library staff are not required to attend training on the new healthcare program. Not as part of an a staff training day, or any other time. Library staff will not be helping people sign up for, nor answering question about this new law. Also, we are not using the computer labs to train navigators.
The Library staff will be attending a staff training day. Approximately 15 minutes of that day will be used to introduce the staff to what online resources are available to the public regarding the government's healthcare plan.
This service is similar to the other "access to information" services we offer (tax forms, medicare forms, job applications and unemployment forms and social services forms) we provide access, not assistance or instruction. The Library held similar, brief training before Medicare part D was released. As information professionals, we want to know what websites have the best, most accurate information so that the public has quality information.
The computer labs will be available one day a week so that these navigators can work with individuals who want to sign up for this program. Again, no library staff will be involved in this part of the program.
I am not sure where this fallacy started. Please feel free to contact me if additional information is required.
Andrea Berstler
Director, Wicomico Public Library
Great idea!
I commend Ms Berstler for responding and getting the correct and accurate information to us. So often we complain about government employees not doing their job. This cannot be said about Ms Bertler and Wic Co is lucky to have someone like her who is on the ball so to speak!
by the way; who are these navigators? will they have all our private health care info? how will it be kept private or can it be kept private anymore. I know it's all not private now, but we might as well just put it on facebook, twitter, pinterest, linkedin, in the Skype room, blogs and newspapers. don't you just love this? wait until the low info voters go to sign up and realize Ocare isn't "free". wait until pre-existing folks realize what their premiums will be.
lot's of people going to go through the roof...not a pretty picture. happy trails to all.

As a lifelong regular patron and friend of the Wicomico county library this post intrigued me enough to do some further research on this topic.
Ms. Berstler is to be commended on the library operation during her brief tenure as library director, however I have noted some major contradictions in her statement.
Firstly,The staff day training topic as told to me by an employee when questioned this evening was "The Affordable Care Act, What you need to know".
This sounds like a bit more than a 15 minute gloss over that she has represented here.
Secondly, upon further investigation, according to the Use Policy on the library website, it states that
"The staff member must be present during the training session to ensure proper use of the center."
It also states that "The ESRL Training Center is to be used for training/educational purposes only and not for commercial purposes. Failure to comply with this policy will result in expulsion from the meeting and/or denial of future use."
So, are staff members involved or not during the Obamacare navigators sessions?
Are these sessions for training purposes? Did she deliberately mislead saying no staff members are involved going against policy?
In light of her misleading and possibly CYA statement, It sounds to me like in keeping with the American Library Associations direct endorsement of Democrats and Obamacare she is towing the line for them as one of them turning the training center into an Obamacare "Exchange Center" with paid navigators utilizing taxpayer funded resources to endorse a political agenda.
This warrants further investigation by county and state legislators to discern her motives, deceitful misrepresentation and the legality of
such activities BEFORE they begin as the library seems to be becoming a haven for liberal and progressive/marxist ideology.
Oh so she's nothing more than a lapdog for her county democratic handler 6:16? Sure is starting to sound like it. I detest subservient women.
6:16. Really?
Well if paid Obamacare navigators are working in the library signing up people that sounds like commercial use to me.
Also sounds like staff is receiving 15 minutes training to NOT answer questions or sign people up?
Hmmm? Which is it? depends on the paragraph.
Fallacy? 3:49 yeah shes on the ball alright.
She must be exempt from it like Congress and the White House!
Wow, lighten up dimwits, the lady was simply explaining the facts. If you're so twisted up about it, why not get your fat cowardly butt up from the computer keyboard and go protest. Geez, you guys are pathetic.
