SALISBURY, MD---Salisbury University has issued a traffic advisory for Saturday, October 5, as more than 7,000 cyclists are expected to participate in the 25th Sea Gull Century bike ride.
Heavy bicycle traffic is anticipated near the SU campus from 6-9 a.m., especially in the area of Route 13 along campus, Milford Street and South Division Street. South Division Street between College Avenue and Milford Street is open only to Sea Gull Century parking traffic during that time.
Bateman Street is closed to all vehicles throughout the day. Traffic restrictions prohibiting southbound traffic from East College Avenue on South Division Street should be expected throughout the afternoon. In addition, motorists may want to avoid Milford and Wayne streets, and the round-about in Fruitland.
Three routes will take riders through Wicomico, Somerset and Worcester counties: the traditional 100-mile Assateague century, 100-mile Snow Hill century and 64-mile Princess Anne metric.
Riders will pass directly through the towns of Princess Anne, Pocomoke City, Snow Hill and Berlin. They will congregate at rest and water stops including Washington High School, Nassawango Golf Course, Cypress Park, Byrd Park, Whiton Crossing, Assateague Island State Park and the Powellville VFW.
Maryland State Police and local police will control the intersection of Route 12/Snow Hill Road at Route 354/Nassawango Road, and the intersections of Route 113 at Germantown Road and Route 376. Bicycle traffic is expected on Mount Hermon Road in the afternoon.
Century coordinators encourage cyclists and motorists to exercise extra caution. Post-ride festivities are near SU’s Perdue and Henson halls. Bicycle traffic will be heavy near campus from 3-6 p.m. All riders should be off the roads by dark.
For more information call University Police at 410-543-6222.

Oh great.
What a great LOGO. Ride on!
yay, talk about rude. bicycle riders don't yield to anyone
Would be easier to celebrate this event if I didn't live along the route. Impossible to travel.
It's gone on now for 25 years. It's usually the same weekend every year. You guys griping don't realize what kind of money these people spend to come here for the weekend. This bike ride is listed by "Bicycling" magazine in the top 100 rides in the world.
If it doesn't go thru your neighborhood, you should try driving on some of the roads involved. You're missing so much. Many roads not designed for thousands of bikers.
Most of the riders do seem to be rude. I try my best to avoid them but sometimes it's hard to do.
I painted fake arrows all over the place. They won't be back anytime soon, maybe Sunday night. :)
They better stay off their cellphones this time! Otherwise, they will be pulled over by troopers on cellphones!
Oh my gosh, it's that time of the year again. It's impossible to get out of our neighborhood. Now they're suggesting to stay away from the roundabout in Fruitland too. Guess I'm doomed for the weekend! PATIENCE, PATIENCE, PATIENCE.
It is very very hard to be patient with such rude people. They really think they absolutely own the road and will not share one little bit. Best thing to do get all shopping done before Saturday, then stay home.
God forbid we judge an entire group of people based on our experiences with a few members of said group. I'm pretty sure there is a whole passage in the Bible about that.
Grow up everyone and realize the economic and cultural benefits of the century. Have some freaking hometown pride!
12:55 Don't you judge the entire muslim group by the acts of a few? Hypocritical christian.
6:44 I remove them, and alter the routes. They would always stop in my yard for shade... Past tense.
I have an air horn. Just blow it they get out of the way. I love them here it is more money in Gary Mackes bonus next year. WTF
11:11 No I don't. I'm actually a voice of reason on this site when it comes to muslims. My mother is one. You don't know me.
I'm so sick of hearing how much money these people bring. The money doesn't benefit the folks who are being inconvenienced. And if the money is soooo great where does it go and why do fees and taxes continue to rise?
