Salisbury Is Getting Tagged Again With Graffiti

Its going to take the entire community again to keep our eyes open to kids or young adults standing around items like shown above to see if or who is tagging Downtown Salisbury.

More than likely they're using artist markers so if you see someone looking suspicious please contact the Salisbury Police and report it before it gets completely out of control, again.

I would like to know as Mayor how you would handle these markings and how to prevent them

anonymous 2:08, That's a great question.

If you followed Salisbury News for enough years you'd know my involvement the last time this happened. Because Chief Webster wouldn't give it the attention it deserved I personally went out and walked the Downtown area sometimes until 3:00 AM. We published the tagging daily to let the public know to keep an eye out and when things got hot enough and the people doing the tagging were getting noticed, it stopped.

I'm a strong believer in bike and foot patrol. I believe those Officers who gain trust from the people they come across every day can enhance their ability to solve crimes such as this. Someone will eventually talk.

As I mentioned a few weeks ago, train Police Officers to drive very slowly through these areas and neighborhoods with their windows down. Listen for unusual noises or dogs barking.

Unfortunately it has becomes very rare to hear stories any more where Officers caught criminals in the act. That is because Police are becoming very reactive instead of pro active. In other words, they are responding to calls after the fact instead.

Chief Duncan is a very qualified Police Chief. She comes from a small town in NYC. YOU have to call these things in and HELP the Police. Believe it or not, I was the FIRST one to call this in to the SPD. When you see graffiti, CALL IT IN IMMEDIATELY. Let the Police follow the patters so they too can keep their eyes out for unusual activity. However, YOU need to participate.

Finally, if I were Mayor, I'd make sure all of the graffiti was removed within 24 hours. That IS the City's policy but as usual this is NOT what is being enforced. As Mayor I would travel around different parts of the City each and every day, 7 days a week. I don't want citizens calling the Mayor's Office about things like this. Don't get me wrong, we'd welcome the call. However, I'd be a proactive Mayor spending my time working for the citizens and not out at some photo op or kissing babies somewhere, if you get my drift.

My entire intent it do actually do the things I have been complaining about for the past 8 years. If Officers are being passive and NOT doing their job, we'll encourage they get terminated and look for Officers who are willing to be pro active. I want to answer your call and say, you know what, Officer so and so sent me a picture of that tag 2 days ago. It's been recorded and we're looking into it. Wouldn't you like to hear that rather than, we'll send someone right out, (after it's been up for 3 to 7 days already)?

I hope this helps answer your question.

Does Salisbury have police horse patrols and if so,when do they use them?

"Chief Duncan is a very qualified Police Chief".
Ok! Then why are the gang signs reappearing?

Agree with question re chief being very qualified. Qualified and competent are two very different words. Word "on the street" is that few in spd have confidence in her!!!
