When we were in school, we sold those thick candy bars for a $1. You could hit someone up each day of the week and they'd buy one. $1 at a time is easier to take. By the end of the 2 week period of sales, you'd have the $10-$14 from the one person. Now, they offer single items that cost that much. Most people won't shell it out at one time, but will in small increments.
I'm in favor with the car wash idea because theey are in a group and not walking door to door which could be dangerous. Any criminal minded person could follow and rob them of the money at any given time. At least as a group, like a car wash, it is usually held on a public lot with plenty of others around. However, I DO love that Joe Corbi pizza!
FRUITLAND sold 10% LORA discount cards good for a year.. 100% of the proceeds went right back to PTA...mOney is respent right in our community.. We support local anything not frozen pizza in a box that comes from somewhere and only some money comes back to schools..

Probably cards/wrapping paper OR coupon books from LOCAL businesses
Candles or candy.
None of them, It's all a scam to using kids to guilt you in to buying overpriced, mediocre quality products.
That said, I will support a car wash or other such activity, but none of that food/wrapping paper junk.
Joe Corbi's Pizza
Joe Corbi's pizza. What bothers me the most is the exclusive parties thrown for the kids who sell xx amount of the item.
Candy bars and pizzas though I will and always have bought anything the students are selling.
