L. Michelle Wright Resigns from Wicomico County Board Of Education, Effective June 30

Wicomico County Board of Education member L. Michelle Wright, a member of the Board since 2006, announced that she is resigning from the Board effective June 30.

In a letter of resignation sent to Gov. Martin O’Malley on May 8, Mrs. Wright thanked O’Malley for re-appointing her last year. She said that while she intended to serve her full five-year term through 2016, new financial disclosure requirements in the state’s ethics law forced her to make a choice between her desire for public service and her family’s right to privacy.

“The Financial Disclosure requires very personal information about my family members, our family business, and business partners to be made available to the public,” she wrote. There’s no way to be sure that everyone would be responsible and conscientious about using the information. “I hope you understand my first responsibility is to protect my family and our business.”

Wright lives and works in Mardela Springs and is an active parent at Mardela Middle and High School. She was appointed to her first five-year term on the Board of Education in 2006, and served as Board President from 2010-2011. She was re-appointed to the Board in 2011 to a second five-year term.

Wright said she has enjoyed 99% of her duties as a Board member, and will continue to be active in the Wicomico school community. “I may not be here at this seat, but I will be out in the audience and out and about in the schools,” she told fellow Board members and the public at the May 8 Board meeting.

Sounds like a bunch of BS to me.

you run a farm stand outside of town, kinda makes one go hmmmm? wondering what is so sensitive that it can't be disclosed!

All the money that she has probably skimmed is what is so sensative.

These disclosures hopefully will keep things a little more honest. For instance someone whose "business partners" are hefty contributors to governors in the past have tended to get these appointments. Not saying this is what happened in this particular case but it does happen.

"what is so sensitive"? Why don't you all post your financial information.

Personal financial information should be confidential under MOST circumstances. But when one enters public life, receives a salary from the taxpayers or has influence over public expenditures the situation changes.

I don't blame her. That's why a lot of good people don't get involved in political activity.

Should of gone before she voted for Freddy. You are the one who will find it hard to sleep at night Mrs. Wright.

She stayed on long enough to vote for Freddy.

I am convinced she had a personal relationship with Freddy and that is why the 2 BOE employees got fired.

I hear 2 more BOE members are stepping down at the same time.

It was said in many posts that she would resign after Freddy got reinstated. There are many of us WHO KNOW THE TRUTH!

Private? What is private about an "alleged" affair with the super?

You all need to get a life... Michelle Wright comes from a good family. She and her husband have a incredible marriage that many would pray to have. You shouldnt speak harshly about someone you do not know.. The disclosure of finances wouldnt only affect herself, but also anyone else associated with the farm. Their personal information should not have to be revealed to give you, yet more ammunition to sit back and questions someones belief and values. I can assure you of which she carries high standards. And the comment about about a "farm stand" Wrights Market is far from just a "farm stand". Until you walk it the shoes of a farmer, dont judge. And maybe tonight, when you sit down to your dinner table and look at the vegetables, fruits, and possibly your chicken dishes and say grace. Maybe you should be Thankful for our farmers.

Raising fruit has nothing to do with an inappropriate relationship
