EGYPTIAN LAWMAKER PUSHES TO LEGALIZE FEMALE GENITAL MUTILATION IN THE NAME OF ISLAM

Hot on the heels of Egyptian presidential candidate Mohammed Mursi’s declaration that “The Koran is our constitution, the Prophet is our leader, jihad is our path and death in the name of Allah is our goal…Today we can establish Sharia law because our nation will acquire well-being only with Islam and Sharia,” Egyptian lawmakers are again making news, and none of it is promising.
According to the Egypt Independent, MP Nasser al-Shaker of the Salafi-led Nour Party is citing notable Islamic scholars in justifying female genital mutilation (FGM) as a part of the “prophetic” Sunnah (a holy work of Islam).
For those unfamiliar with Egyptian politics– the Salafi party is even more fundamentalist than the Muslim Brotherhood, and they control nearly 24% of Egypt’s parliament.  These are the people who try to live their lives in the example of the earliest Muslims, and their marks on the world include Osama bin Laden and Ayman al-Zawahiri.

Good job Obama. But I guess he'll blame Bush for this as well.

Obama has two daughters - is this what they will have to endure?? If so, shame on him.

I am not surprised. Women are of no value in the Muslim religion.

Hey idiots, read the article... "EGYPTIAN lawmaker pushes to..."

Nowhere did it say anything about Obama or the U.S. I dislike Obama just as much as the rest, but you idiots are so quick to blame him for everything even if it has nothing to do with him! Bigots...

Same thing here with circumcision. We are no better.

8:53 Uhhh, yes we are.

It has everything to do with the Obama regime continuing to support these muslim cultists with financial aid.
OUR money, not his.

Hey 8:40 AM - why the name calling? Maybe Obama is a Muslim, like most people think he is, and therefore the remark about his girls having to endure this torture.

8:53 is correct...do a little research on what kind of crazy practices the Jewish ppl have in this country as far as male genital mutilation.

8:53...you big dummy. Circumcision is IN NO WAY even closely comparable to the removal of the clitoris, which is often done without pain killers on mostly young girls. Sounds like a Muslim trying some kind of moral equivalency argument. It ain't flyin', Sayheed.

Uhh - Anon 853, there are some hygienic benefits to circumcision, but female genital mutilation is just that mutilation. Women are property in their religion and this type of mutilation has more to do with their role in life.

840-Obama allowed an ally, and generally peaceful middle east President(Mubarak) get overrun. Obama decided we should keep sending Egypt billions of dollars per year, and look who we're sending the money to now! Mubarak was an ally for over 20 years, made peace with Israel and helped settle down regional tensions. Obama turned his back on him, and helped instigate the overthrow of the Mubarak regime. I'm not a bigot, especially considering that our intelligence agencies had boots on the ground in Egypt during the uprising and helped coordinate the efforts!

We have a choice. Males do not have to be circumcised. It is the choice of the parent when they are born. There are many reasons to circumcise boys. The only reason they want to do FGM on girls is to make it so the girls/women will not enjoy sex. Their only reason for sex is to reproduce. Many of these girls/women will never be able to have children because of the recurrent infections from the mutilation. There is NO medical reason for FGM.

Circumcision is a barbaric practice that should only done when medically necessary, not running around doing every male baby.
Men should make that decision as adults if they wish to have it done, when they can make their own choice, under anesthesia. No we are no better than them.
