Richard Douglas On Today's Keystone XL Pipeline Senate Vote

The Senate voted to defeat the Keystone Pipeline amendment 56 to 42. The measure required 60 votes to pass and received significant support from Senators of both parties. Sen. Cardin voted no.

Maryland U.S. Senate Candidate Richard Douglas released the following statement:

"By delaying yet again the Keystone XL Pipeline, the elitist and out-of-touch U.S. Senate and the Administration sent a blunt message to American workers: drop dead. U.S. Sens. Ben Cardin and Harry Reid have no concept of the impact on workers which follows the death of projects like Keystone.

"At the very moment when Maryland legislators are considering hiking the gas tax and the President himself has acknowledged soaring fuel prices is an election issue, Ben Cardin comfortably votes the party line at the expense of hard-working families and those looking for work.

"The fact is the Keystone pipeline is a direct benefit to workers in Cumberland, Salisbury, Sparrows Point and every other place in America struggling to maintain a manufacturing-based economy."

drop the political grandstanding. Keystone won't do a thing for gas prices. And the company hasn't even submitted the proposal for the new route yet that avoids the sensitive environmental areas. Or let me rephrase. The drinking and irrigation water for folks in Nebraska.

I'd like to see this one put on a referendum. This administration has no concern whatsoever of the will of the people. It's about their agenda and that's it.Now while on the campaign trail our leader will echo that he did everything he could to get the pipeline passed, but congress stood in his way.Such bs.

Some people just can't get their head around the fact that there are hundreds of pipelines cris-crossing the country and have had an excellent reliability history and a new pipe built with todays technology would be even better. And its not just about the price of gas at the pump, but jobs. Pump price doesn't mean much when you have no job. And I suppose people like sending their money to countries that hate us and want to kill us. Maybe all the libs should take their next vacation in Iran...and see if they make it back. Or maybe they would have such a good time they wouldn't want to come back! Life on the terrorist riviera must be pretty good with all of our money they have and contine to rake in....

Actually 7:23, there are plenty of spills reported by pipelines. I'm not saying they are a dangerous imminent threat, but why would you place something that you know is going to inevitably spew toxins directly over your water source? Common sense needs to prevail, get rid of all the politics. Approve the pipeline once they have a full proposal that addresses the issue of the reroute.

By the way, we don't get our oil from Iran. In fact, our top 3 sources of oil are domestic production, Canada, and Mexico.

Ok ok, I get it. So the new conservative attack line is to promote Bush's decision to open offshore drilling. They are using the $16 dollar drop in the price of a barrel of oil as evidence supporting their claim. But conveniently leave out the fact that oil prices remained at historic highs of $120+ up until the stock market crashed and we were well on our way to losing 8 million jobs. Then they try to compare today's oil price to what the price was during the duldrums of the recession in the attempt to say "obama sucks". Yet at $107, the price is still alot cheaper than it was under the previous "good policies" of Bush. Their logic is laughable.

The reason they {most of congress, their families, friends and all the powerful people in this country and a few others} wont ever drill here and be self sufficient is because THEY all have stock and favors in return of foreign oil, they cant do that with domestic oil.

You know I am sick and tired of the lies, the lies, the lies. This administration is out of control, the congress is out of control, the state and county and city officials are all out of control. They all want to spend our money and line their own pocketbooks. The people should be in control. I say its time send them all home and start over.

8;06, we do drill here! We're the #3 producer of oil, and even with that we are still the #1 importer. Even if we magically overtook Saudi Arabia and Russia, who both have much higher reserves, we would STILL have to rely on Canada, Mexico, and Saudi imports (as well as others) for oil and we would STILL be the #1 oil importer. Folks these are facts. Facts that should show you that we can't drill our way out of this problem.

7:57 - Let me ask you this...if a gallon of crude is so much less expensive now as compared to then, why is the end product of gasoline so much higher NOW then it was then. Libs try to blame the the cost of gas on the cost of crude. Your theory does not hold water (or oil in this case). The current Liberal Administration is nothing more than a tax and spend bunch of clueless individuals who have no concerns with the exception of themselves. This Country needs jobs NOW! If I remember correctly, in Nobama's State of the Union Address, he stated that he would approve any initiative that would create jobs for Americans, but then flat out refused to do what he stated. What say you?

How is it something tha comes out of the ground becomes a hazzrdous waste once it gets spilled back into the ground? So what it will not help gas prices today. What about the jobs for today and gas prices in ten years? You enviromental wackos have no arguments. So get out of the way and let freedom ring!

sorry 936, you can't make up your own facts.

Gas was over $3.50 for most of 2008 and spiked well over $4 during the spring and summer. Prices didn't drop until everyone was losing jobs and money in the stock market. And seeing as you failed to pull that info. off of readily available charts, I wouldn't expect you to see that crude prices track closely with gasoline prices on those charts either. There is no debate when someone either refuses to acknowledge hard facts or is just plain ignorant. You prove that in the "information age" there are plenty of folks that are still clueless.

LOL @ 9:48! Joe, I really hope most of your readers aren't as "slow" as 948. Hey dude, when you get off work, stop by autozone and pick up a quart of oil to mix with that Jack and Coke tonight. Let us know how you feel in the morning. LOL

Not to mention, I don't think anyone would consider Nebraskan, a staunchly red state, a bastion for "environmental wackos". HA HA.

7:57/9:36 - Let us analyze this a bit further. Because you seem to be fixed on your sources, I will humor you and quote web sources and explain my rational..

"July 7, 2008—Crude oil prices settled-in at a new record of $147 per barrel. The U.S. average price for regular gasoline climbs to an all-time high of $4.01 per gallon. Road trip style vacations are put on hold for many summer travelers."

Ok, so you state today, the average is $107(I will take your word on it). That is a 27.27% decrease in cost(1.0-(107/147)). You also state - " I wouldn't expect you to see that crude prices track closely with gasoline prices on those charts either.".

No by following YOUR logic, Our gas prices should be $2.92 per gallon($4.01 x 72.79%=$2.92). Here is another quote for you -

" Gasoline prices in the U.S. have jumped 50¢ a gallon, to an average of $3.77, this year, and in much of the country it’s tough to fill up even a small car for less than $50."

So, if gas prices should be around $2.92, but are actually at $3.77 on average, that is actually 22.55% ABOVE where they should be. What say you now?

11:14 isntead of spouting crud, use some common sense and simply google "oil gasoline price chart". Hell, go get the price table and plot it out yourself. They don't call it the "information age" for nothin

11:51 - You see, you tend to be part of the problem that faces our nation today. You do not have the brain power to think for yourself. You tend to believe and rely on everything that comes from others' mouths. You are what many commonly refer to as sheeple. There are always 2 sides to every story. Case in point, Obama's place of birth. Some believe that he was born in Kenya and some believe it was Hawaii. Take the initiative, get off your lazy butt and do your own research. While there are people like yourself who are unwilling to think for themselves, our nation will continue this downward spiral. When will you Libtards wake up and think for yourselves...blah, blah, blah, information age. It is more like the Laziness Age.
