Um, Do I Actually Need To Buy Winter Tires?

Ah yes, winter tires. That's what you need right now. You want to buy an expensive set of tires just for one season. Is it even necessary? Can't you just get all season tires and be done with it? Maybe! But the answer really depends on where you live and what type of surface you'll be driving on.

Oh, yes, and I buy a complete set of tires for all 4 seasons and rims to match! Of course, we conserve by only having 6 vehicles like everyone else! (Garaged) That's because I make over $250k every year and my job is guaranteed whether I actually show up or not! Doesn't everybody do this?

500, bitter?

Some people in different parts of the country have to do this. For example my bil drives a bmw in New Hampshire. He has to change out his tires in the winter because the regular ones just won't cut it in snow. It is actually common practice in parts of the USA.

I know what you are thinking anon 500, wah wah...he doesn't complain, and btw he works hard for his >250K.

When i lived in Iowa snow tires were a must. You would not even consider going out without them. In fact, most people had studded tires. A lot of others would put hundres of screws in their own snow tires to make their own studded tires if they couldn't afford a set. These things are not a joke. People around here just don't drive in snow all winter. Instead they cry about it.

An even better idea is just go to Florida for the winter.

Not really, but it looks like some people around here could use some rain tires.....

And the make of the car is included because...?

I would guess it's included because typically you don't think of a bmw being able to drive through the snow. In this persons case it looks like the type of tire does matter because of the area of the USA that they live in.
And the reason you wanted to be so snide is because?

I'm not the one being snide.

Because despite the high price and terribly overated reputation, a BMW could get stuck in the rain.

It is obvious that the majority of the posters in this thread have no clue about BMW vehicles. Many BMW models are all wheel drive - in redneck speak = 4 wheel drive. There are some models that are rear wheel drive but most of these are larger heavier vehicles that tend to drive better in snow than most other two wheel drive vehicles...and yes I own 2 BMWs and have never been stuck in either.
