COLLEGE PARK, Md. (WJZ) — Cutting popular sports. That’s the proposal at the University of Maryland College Park to solve some serious budget problems. As Weijia Jiang explains, students and alumni are not going down without a fight.
If these proposed cuts go through, eight varsity Terrapins teams will be completely slashed, upsetting many students and alumni.
“Students aren’t happy about it,” said Staci Armezzani.

That reporter is familiar.. "She comes to Charm City from Maryland’s Eastern Shore where she worked as a general assignment reporter for WBOC in Salisbury. During her time there, Weijia was honored with regional Edward R. Murrow and Associated Press awards for feature reporting."
Cut them all.
I thought the purpose of college was an education. Cut the sports if money needs to be saved. Get rid of programs that dont bring revenue in.
We know, after the Penn State scandel, that sports builds character is pure BS.
If the fnancial situation is as dire as it appears to be, then the programs should be cut. The alternative is to raise fees to cover the programs. No doubt those students so opposed would also be opposed to rate hikes. They appear to be the two choices available. Neither appears palatable, but the times are tough. I guess young people don't fully appreciate the gravity of the financial shortage.
