Gov. Jack Markell punctuated his commitment to a “world-class interconnected trail network” at a Sussex Outdoors Summit at Trap Pond State Park near Laurel Thursday, Oct. 13. Noting that studies show children spending only minutes outside each week compared to about 43 hours in front of computer and television screens, Markell said, “I want to do everything we can to encourage children to be outside.” Markell delayed a trip to Washington, D.C., for state matters to address a crowd of legislators, cabinet members, parks officials and others involved in efforts to improve the health of children and adults in Sussex County and Delaware.
