The victim was identified as Alice E. Davis, 55, of the 3500-block of Allen Road, Eden, Md. The identification was made late this afternoon through dental record comparison at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore.
A cause of death has not been determined. Although trauma on the body has been observed, further forensic examinations and tests are being conducted. More specific information will not be provided at this time.
Notification regarding this identification was made to the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office. Police have made notification to the family of Ms. Davis.
Just before 5:00 p.m. yesterday, troopers from the Princess Anne Barrack were dispatched to the 13000-block of Loretto Road, Princess Anne, in response to a call for a body that had been found. Upon arrival, troopers observed the body of an unidentified deceased person lying on the ground in the woods about one-quarter mile from Loretto Road.
The wooded area where the body was found is behind the Supreme Council of the House of Jacob Church on Loretto Road. Members of the congregation were in the woods yesterday afternoon and unexpectedly found the body.
Investigators from the Maryland State Police Homicide Unit are continuing their investigation. They are in contact with and working in coordination with the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office and the Wicomico County Bureau of Investigation.

Joe, thank you for posting this...I have moved from the area, but keep up with the local news through your site. To say that this is unfortunate is an understatement, and I hope that your readership will pray for this woman and her family in their time of grief. I hope that the many folks who have known her will find a way to honor her memory, not pass judgement, and support her family in this, their time of loss.

I, as well have been gone from the shore for 10 years now, but the news daily through your site and others. I did not know her but have been praying for a safe return. After the suicide of the husband my hopes did go down but I still hoped...What a sad sad ending and even more sad is the fact that he (the husband) didn't even leave some sort of note or something to give some answers. What a coward, in more ways than one. Prayers go out to her family, friends, students and co-workers.

That being said, my heart aches for Barrie and her entire Family. Losing someone that close is just indescribable.
After losing my Mother last year I can relate and I wouldn't wish such feelings on my worst enemy.
After becoming so close with some of the Foxwell Family, again, unbelievable.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the Tilghman's. Quite frankly, I could give a shit about the Davis Family.
I agree Joe.....My heart goes out to Barrie and her family. But it also goes out to the Davis family as I'm sure they had nothing to do with the alleged perpetrators actions. I'm sure that many of the Davis' loved Mrs. Davis.
Lewis saw the husband exit her vehicle at the shopping center and Alice was not with him. He should have arrested him on the spot for probable cause. A lot of cases are getting dropped and Lewis is not the leader many hoped he would be. Maybe he let him go home for a reason. No more Leggs cases.
I am with you on that last post Joe! I have followed long enough to know the history of you and her sister Barrie, and I applaud you for handling this the way you have. Again, prayers to Alice's family, friends, co-workers and students! And to the many students that she apparently had a great influence on. Sooo sad....... 9:26, you have every right to your feelings but to be completely honest I couldn't care less about any remaining Davis family members.
I'm no expert by any means and the facts in this case are a moot point. An outstanding member of the community is gone and the only way the life-taker will pay is by the hand of his maker. Many prayers to anyone and everyone that knew and cared about Mrs. Davis. Her last moments on earth were obviously a hellish nightmare...may she rest in eternal peace.
Joe, you've made your feelings about the Davis family clear, but suppose that they are just as agrieved as Alice Davis' family? Perhaps he was the "black sheep" in an otherwise respectable family? They can't be blamed for the actions of one family member.
There are so many people hurting now--now only Barrie and all the rest of Alice's family, but the Parkside family as well. Goodness knows what her current as well as her past students must be feeling now. From all accounts she was an outstanding educator who touch the lives of so many young people. What a sad loss!
anonymous 10:25, call me old school, I really don't care. A life has been taken and the Sheriff says the deceased was their #1 suspect. That being said, my feelings will never change. Shall I assume you have feelings for Thomas Leggs family? Again, I couldn't care less about any one of them either.
This is so sad. Many knew Alice, some a little, a lot very well. She was a lovely caring person.

I would have thought by now someone from the Davis family would have made some sort of apology for what the worthless Jess Davis did, not only to his wife but to the family and community. I could tell by looking at his picture that he was a very evil man; his eyes were full of hate and spite.

Someone had to know how she was Alice must have been treated by Jess. How come noone intervened? Jess's family AND Alice's family. It's time to stop the madness of keeping domestic violence a secret. If you know anyone who is being abused, scream it. Tell everyone. Go up the chain to the top if you have to. That is the only way it will stop is when everyone knows and someone steps up to the plate to make it stop. Blast it out.

Thanks for helping find that article about Jess Davis....sounds to me like he was a scam artist and desperate for money even back then....RIP Ms. Davis.
I had often thought myself if LE couldn't have done something to prevent Davis' suicide especially when it became apparent he did not leave a note or anything else descriping details and the location of Alice's body.
Now to me is seems God had his hand in all of this. God knew Jess Davis' taunting personality and felt it best that he was out of the picture, knowing full well his flock from the Jacob Church would find Alice's body on Sunday.

RIP Ms. Davis. You were a teacher/mentor to several of my nieces and nephews. They are feeling the pain as if you were a family member of ours. I have heard many wonderful stories about how you touched each one of them since it was announced you were missing. Our family wants to do something special in your memory to show how special you were and that you won't be forgotten. There is talk about a memory garden where each one will plant something. Our prayers go out to Barrie and her family.

Hopefully, the family will help to endow a scholarship account for a student at Parkside who wants to major in English and those of us who would like to donate could do so. It would be a living memorial to Alice.
12:28, great idea! When I was an English teacher/Department head, we lost a teacher in a tragic accident during the school year. We created a scholarship in her memory. The prayer garden is another good idea. I know that Bennett had one (I don't know if another one is at the new site or not) which was a loving memorial to several who had died. Don't let the memory of Ms. Davis fade away. Try to do something tangible and meaningful to preserve your appreciation of her talents.
