I personally have heard comments of people wanting to run for office, but said they didn't think they had a chance because Dorchester County elections are a popularity contest and it is difficult to run against the entrenched politicians. Like many elections, people tend to vote for a name they recognize, not for the most qualified candidate. History shows that many replacements on the council are due to death or retirement of a council person.

they should do the same in local town councils too.i know pittsville town council has 3 firemen on the council and one has not attended a town meeting in 6 months and does not even live in the town anymore! but there keeping him appointed for the swing vote for all the fire depts so called special needs!!! like the 30 k electronic sign in front of the fire house with the 4 k brick and cement foundation for it to stand on.just after they purchased this total waste of taxpayers of pittsvilles money they voted to raise the sewer footage rates by 16 dollars a quarter because of the loss of income to them because of 50 to 60 houses in foreclosure and empty and no water and sewer money coming from them. looks like this town is becoming alot like salisbury.
