CRASH TEAM INVESIGATORS: Cpl. E. Gregson/Tfc. J. Bedell
On the above date and time Troopers responded to the above location for a fatal injury accident. The investigation revealed that vehicles two and three were traveling westbound on Route 50 business approaching the crossover that permits traffic traveling on eastbound Route 50 to turn left into a crossover that accesses the N/B Salisbury Bypass ramp. Vehicle one attempted to crossover westbound Route 50, when it failed to yield to vehicles two and three. Vehicle one was then struck by vehicle two and by vehicle three simultaneously. Charges are pending against the operator of vehicle 1 upon consultation with the States Attorney’s Office.
Vehicle 1: 2000 Mazda passenger (Destroyed).
Operator: Sara Goonasekeram w/f, 43yoa, of Gaithersburg, MD (Injured)
Front seat passenger: Ambrosina Buckley, w/f, 78yoa, of New York (Deceased)
Rear driver passenger: Child, 8yoa, of New York (Life threatening injury)
Rear passenger side: Child, 12yoa, of New York (Injured)
Vehicle 2: 1995 Ford Econline van (Destroyed)
Operator: Timothy Jason Thomas, w/m, 34yoa, Salisbury, MD (Not injured)
Passenger: Timothy Tyrone Day, b/m, 48yoa, Salisbury, MD (Not injured)
Vehicle 3: 2003 Ford Escape (Minor Damage)
Owned by: Beth Neiswinter Watson, w/f, 42yoa, Salisbury, MD (Injured)
Operator is the same.

The storm is making people drive crazy..Just went south to Princessanne, almost got hit head on on Allen Road...then people were driving like nuts on south 13..What are they thinking( If I cause an accident I wont have to deal with the storm..Slow down people..we are all upset over Irene!!!! but we cant stop her ...so sit back and let her do whatever it is shes gonna do...Please pray that we all get thru this mad storm ,, and can go on and talk about it next week..Praying for safety of all ..Please join in..God be with the Easternshore
Not sure why SHA thought this was safer than the cloverleafs that were there before. How can it be safe to try and cross a major highway with speeding traffic
5:55 You are blaming someone else, the engineers who designed the intersection. The ONLY person to blame is Goonasekeram, for not paying attention and waiting for the traffic to clear. Same deal with the 60 foot road and Rt. 50 where accidents seem to happen often. Paying attention is #1, not paying $$$ for a stupid light or the redesign of an intersection. Government cant fix everything. Personal responsibility......

6:55, partly agree. This design is more dangerous than a complete cloverleaf. Some say the state ran out of money. Some say SHA felt it was good enough for the good ole Eastern Shore.
These are probably the same yayhoos supporting the half-*** Olney design.
i agree with 6:55. if everyone would stop treating driving a car like a big game of chicken there would be alot less accidents. alot of drivers are either just not paying attention or pulling out in front of vehicles who have the right of way and "daring" them to get out of the way.
How many people will have to die in horrid crashes, how many families will have to be devastated before someone decides to put back the cloverleaf ramps and stop killing people with the Rt 50 crossover?
I suppose when the State Highway Administration Director has a family member, relative or good friend die at this location, things will change. Until then, people should go to the Perdue Stadium light and make a U-turn for safety.
The death tragedies continue because highway administration wanted to save some money instead of lives.

Like 5:55 PM eluded to it is a very dangerous intersection that would have been better off staying a cloverleaf. I do thing the SHA and the engineers bear most of the blame.
How many lives have to be lost.
If the cloverleafs weren't already there then this conversation wouldn't happen.
Human beings make mistakes. How much is your life worth? $10K? $100K? Responsibility is not an "emotion-proof" process. She wasn't drunk, unlike many of the drivers involved in fatal accidents these days. It's silly to believe that a clover-leaf wouldn't save lives.
unfortunately the only person that has to suffer is my cousin sara who lost her mother and both her children are seriously injured. she was not drunk at the time of this accident. people need to remember that she herself has to live with the fact of the events that occurred with the tragedy. i would greatly appreciate everyone not to leave negative comments as there is a family filled with children, neices, nephews, husbands, wives, and cousins all suffering. lets just all remember this could have happened to any of us and all thoughts and prayers should be with those left behind still suffering.
I will eco my Cousin Misty. When those of you who make comments about driving skill never make a driving mistake, then you could make a comment and even then your out of line, and hope I never meet you face to face, would not be a good day for you!
Okay let's get it straight now. To all you morons who are quick to judge.1ST Sara does not drink or do drugs.nor does she play chicken.With the lives of her mother and children.2nd She was evacuating her mother who lives alone from NY to her home in MD.3rd Sara is a soft spoken loving mother and daughter.She was trying to get her family out of harms way. We all have been shaky about this hurricane,and trying to get to safty.If that is a dangerous intersection. Then you need to get the fat cats who are stuffing their pockets to fix that situation.Sara is a God fearing woman who has lost her mom,her children are hurt.You people need to wake up.It's a sorry thing when we judge others,loose compassion and open our mouths when we don't know squat.
I agree with Misty, Jason, and Debra. Almost every driver at some point in their life makes an error while driving. The only thing that separates them from Sara is that their fate was different. It is very disappointing to see so many people post negative and hurtful things during a time like this. It is obvious that this tragic incident wasn't done purposefully. Rather than spending so much effort on trying to place blame, it would be nice to see people post positive, uplifting messages and prayers for those involved in the accident, including the driver who will likely be grieving considerably.
I know Sara and her family. Her older son and my older son were in school together and played soccer together. Sara is a wonderful person and I am in tears to find out what happened to her family. I agree with the 4 previous posts, people should stop leaving hurtful comments and stop judging especially when they do not know the facts and surely are not perfect drivers themselves. Sara, you and your family are in my prayers. May the Lord give you the peace that only He can give.
