OCEAN CITY, MD - Construction of the long-discussed expansion of the Ocean City convention center is expected to begin next week.
Convention Center Director Rick Hamilton and Mayor Rick Meehan went to Annapolis Wednesday to receive the final approval from the state Board of Public Works on the construction contract. The state, through the Maryland Stadium Authority, is a partner in the facility, so it must approve all contracts.
“It’s already been negotiated, so I think it will be a formality,” Hamilton said of the state approval.
Once the approval is in hand, construction can begin. Hamilton said the contractor is “waiting to start” on Monday.

All these projects keep getting approved, no wonder Annapolis now has to meet twice yearly to approve new taxes and fees.
It'd be nice if it was re-conditioned as a top notch concert venue. Lets face it, concerts on the Shore are few and far between, and usually at a sub-par venue(ahem...Wicomico Civic Center/Del State fair). It could easily hold 2-4 shows a week from April-September. With plenty of time for all "convention center" type activities to go on as well. There is no reason why OC does not have a top notch concert venue, outside of the current small bars/clubs.
