CAMBRIDGE, MD - Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge recently announced that the refuge, through the leadership of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, has added more than 400 acres of vital property.
"We are pleased with this important addition to the refuge which will help support multiple goals outlined in our Comprehensive Conservation Plan and will play a key role in supporting the developing sea level adaptation planning effort that is currently underway," said refuge manager Suzanne Baird in a written statement. "This new addition would not be possible without the significant support of partners."
The property, which was gained through efforts of the Chesapeake Conservancy, the Maryland congressional delegation and the Conservation Fund, will support present and future wildlife habitat management needs and maintain the region's ecological diversity.

Idiot. MD depends on a healthy bay full of fish and other aquatic life. Blackwater makes a major contribution to the health of numerous species that we depend on. But I guess you figure that fish on your plate was created at the factory.
Another 2 million spent on land as the economy goes further down hill .

1:03 is the idiot , we have been dumping billions of dollars into the bay for years. Nothing has worked or the money has been put into the pockets of the so-called government workers.
The bay is in the worse shape its ever been in.

much of the primary fish we eat from the small croaker to the large rockfish are either in the bay, use the bay to spawn, or use the bay as feeding grounds for a portion of the year. But don't let the facts get in your way.
The money spent to acquire this land did not come from taxpayers. It came from the Land and Water Conservation Fund, which gets its money from fees paid by companies drilling offshore for oil and gas. And there's nothing illegal about it, but I know knee-jerk hatred of the government is about all most readers here can manage. Blackwater NWR helps protect a large chunk of Eastern Shore waterfowl, which is a boon to hunters. And it protects a large portion of the crab nurseries in the Bay. So you should be thankful that the government spent its time working on this conservation project for all Marylanders.
The government is broke so what do they do, take more land off of the tax base. It's insane, the gov should be selling land to pay the bills instead of talking about raising taxes again.
