Councilmen Offer Varying Views on Visitor Retention

OCEAN CITY, MD - A discussion over how to thank visitors for coming to Ocean City became a thankless business at Tuesday’s City Council meeting, as members mixed it up in a dispute over marketing.

Councilmen Brent Ashley and Joe Hall have pushed for the city to create and distribute silicone wristbands with the city’s Web site printed inside. They suggested that local businesses buy the wristbands at cost and give them to patrons and the special Web site will take visitors to a survey where they have a chance to win an Ocean City trip.

Some other council members have said that is not the best way to say thank you, because people might throw away the wristbands or not visit the Web site. Having businesses offer top-notch customer service is the best way to make visitors happy and wanting to return, they said.
