Pay-By-Phone Parking Problems

WASHINGTON, DC (WUSA) -- It's billed as "parking made simple," but the District's new pay by phone parking may have some glitches that could cost you.

Richard McKnight of Silver Spring was visiting the museums with his family Monday afternoon.  He didn't have enough change so he paid by phone.  After registering for nearly 15 minutes he paid by credit card for 2 hours of parking.

"I returned in an hour and a half and there was a $25.00 ticket," McKnight said.

We had something similar to this happen to us last week, we put 2hrs worth of quarters in the parking meter only to then learn the meter was broken, we called the # on the side of the meter and spoke to a woman who gave us a conf # but also said we would probably still receive a ticket but if we did to simply send back the bottom of the ticket along w/ the confirmation #. We wrote the conf # down on paper put it under our windshield and sure enough there was a pink ticket waiting for us on our arrival.
We've since sent back the ticket along w/ the conf # and hopefully that'll be the end of it.
