A Letter To The Editor: PRMC Hospital Visit

I was in your E.R. tonight from approx. 6 p.m. to after 10 p.m. with my pregnant step-daughter to receive treatment for nausea and dehydration.

It was after 8 p.m. before we were taken to a room. The man who escorted us to the room, Frank, told my daughter to strip down and put gown on.

Upon hearing that, I went into the hall so she could have some privacy while she changed, and informed Frank of that.

I was then told by Frank that due to other patients privacy I could not stand in the hall and I had to enter the room while my daughter changed.

Being there is no curtain in the room I stood with my nose in the corner like a little boy so she could change.

But my daughter was not comfortable with that so she went across the hall to the bathroom and changed.

Now this may not be a major concern to you and I am not sure exactly what your policy is concerning this area, but, I find it extremely ridiculous that we had to do such maneuvers.

Is this the hospital's policy regarding patient clothes changing?

The more I sat and thought about it the madder I got but I did not make a scene, rather I am sending you this email.

I am actually curious to know if this is your policy. My daughter relayed all this to her nurse that was treating her and she apologized and said it should not have happened.

So I have to ask, why did it happen? Common sense would dictate that I leave the room while she was changing. Would a minute or two actually have violated another patient's privacy? What about my daughter's privacy?

In closing, thank you for your time in reading this. I am sure you have more important things to worry about but to me, the whole thing was silly.

Seriously? I've been to the ER at PRMC many a time with other people and routinely wandered the hall without any issue. If you had not raised a fuss to begin with and just stood out in the hall by the door it wouldn't have been an issue.
Why the heck couldn't you have wandered over into the bathroom for the minute or two she was changing. Heck she probably would have been done by the time you found the bathroom.
Much ado about nothing.

apparently im not supposed to call you retarded anymore since its not PC, so im left with...common sense deficient. dont go back with your daughter. if your step-daughter was so embarassed, she shouldnt have brought you. sounds like your step-daughter should not be breeding.

My daughter was in ER w a broken knee the same night. She came in at 730. They had 14 plus people in and out. She was in trama area And she kept asking for more privacy because the area only has curtains. You should stay in room with your kid. I don't want you looking at mine as many did when they walked by! It's an ER, OMG just turn your back.

Bet she was sick all day. And they waited to go to ER that evening. For the life of me I will never figure out people!

And, to some extent so is your complaint. (Silly, that is.) They are attempting to maintain privacy of others to the best of their ability. And, to ask you to turn the other direction and for your daughter to change is not too much to ask. I think you're more upset with the wait than the privacy issue. And, your daughter's issues would be very low on a triage form of treatment priorities causing a longer wait. No, I don't work for PRMC or any other medical facility but have worked in a medical field years ago and do understand the reason for waiting v. other patient needs.

I think the people in this country need to appreciate the health care that we already have and stop trying to find something to sue people over or complain about.

Wow, you people are rough! However, to address the author of the letter... it sounds much more reasonable to me that you should have gone into the bathroom, instead of your daughter. The ER is often a crazy, chaotic place, and I can understand trying to maintain the patient's privacy. But why did your pregnant daughter leave the treatment area, and not you?

I thought you were going to require people to provide their names for LTE's?

Wow! Another instance of commenter bashing on Sbynews!
C'mon Joe, why do you even let these things through?
It angers me every time I see this happening.
I love your site, and it's the place I go to find out what's going on in the area, but this really needs to stop.
You people need to grow up! If you can't say something nice, then why comment at all? Why rip someone apart for communicating what had happened to them?
Have you ever had something happen and all you needed to do was "get it out" and then you felt better?
Maybe this was the case!?
Back off and stop doing this! Please!

anonymous 10:54, perhaps I should have censored your comment too?

Every one has the right to their opinion.

Exactly Joe!

Anyone who decides to send Joe an email reguarding an experienc they had is subject to critism here. Good or bad, if you don't like it, don't send it to Joe to publish it.

This blog is opinionated and hs been since the start of it.

Let me add this. The ONLY people who challenge us as to WHO writes the letters to the editor are mainly Anti Albero Bloggers. Their goal, to know WHO these people are, look them up and call and harass them. It only took ONE time for them to do that in the past and we decided right then and there to keep every one's names off those letters, unless they insist.

Just ignore them.

It is true this is a blog; but if everytime a commenter gets bashed, the comments will decline to include only those who want to bitch about everything. If you solicit comments, you shouldn't then bash most of the responders. Personally, I really enjoy this site; but I do see an increase in the bashing.

I'm not bothered by people commenting on it.
What bothers me is the personal attacks. It's totally uncalled for.

anonymous 12:11 & 12:12 are the same people.

Here come the Anti Bloggers backstepping and trying to come off like multiple people agree with them.

YOU'VE BEEN BLOGGED!

All I will say is that ER is overused for this type of stuff.

I too say that the ER is over used by people holding those FREE MEDICAl cards..I too was there last night..my granddaughter was treated very well she had an emergency which required minor surgery..If you are sick to your stomach and pregnant stay home, drink some water, thats not and emergency.... the er is for broken bones and emergencies...I saw people in there last night eating pizza, chips, and sucking up the air cond.. These poor doctors dont have time for these lazy people looking for a hand out...Sorry folks but i have to pay for my trips to the ER and i can tell you it has to be bad before i go..its you folks who rush in there that have nothing else better to do that are giving PRMC a bad name...Get some pepto bismo and suck it up...If you are afraid to take off your clothes , stay home...Get a life people..

I was 12:12 - I was NOT 12:11
and I am NOT one of your Anti Albero jerks.
I follow your blog daily and I come to YOUR blog to find out what is happening locally. In fact, the only other blog I bother to look at is dustpan in Delmar.
Just because someone doesn't agree with your other commenters doesn't mean we're an Anti Albero.
