'It typically doesn't get this hot this quickly,' National Weather Service meteorologist says
It’s August in June, or at least it feels like it in much of the United States. What started as a heat wave in the South and Midwest — Minneapolis saw 102 degrees on Tuesday — is spreading towards the mid-Atlantic and Northeast.
Most of the central U.S. saw temperatures in the 90s on Tuesday, and Wednesday should be even warmer, with much of Texas topping 100, weather.com reported.
By then, most of the mid-Atlantic and Northeast will join the Midwest and Great Lakes areas with temperatures in the 90s.
Texas should see more 100-degree weather on Thursday, but the Midwest will start to cool off.
By Friday, the northern half of the U.S. should see a cold front come in to reduce temperatures. Minneapolis, for example, should be back down into the 60s after Tuesday's 102 — the warmest day there since 1988, according to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune.
The cold front is expected to head to the Northeast on Thursday, The Weather Channel reported, which will bring the possibility of clouds, showers and thunderstorms that will help lower temperatures.
But before the anticipated cooldown, more high temperature records are in danger of being broken, The Weather Channel said.
