Delaware State Senator Seeks Plagiarism Probe

Delaware State Sen. Michael Katz is asking the House Ethics Committee to investigate a claim that a member of the House of Representatives plagiarized a piece of Katz's legislation.

Katz's announced Tuesday that he has asked the House Ethics Committee to investigate whether Rep. Bryon Short copied Katz's Senate Bill 90. Katz says his bill, which deals with accreditation for medical facilities that perform invasive medical procedures, was filed and released May 12. He says Short copied much of the bill and introduced it as House Bill 144 on May 26.

Short says the bills are different and he didn't copy Katz's bill. He says they were both drawing on language developed in a collaborative effort involving the Department of Health and Social Services and the state's medical society.
