Unions Frame Bargaining As 'Civil Rights' Issue

Labor unions at the heart of a burning national disagreement over the cost of public employees want to frame the debate as a civil rights issue, an effort that may draw more sympathy to public workers being blamed for busting state budgets with generous pensions.

As part of that strategy, unions are planning rallies across the country on April 4 — the anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr.'s assassination. Union officials want the observances in dozens of cities to remind Americans that King was supporting striking sanitation workers in Memphis, Tenn., the night he was shot.

By portraying collective bargaining as a human rights issue, union officials hope the rallies can help fuel a backlash against Republicans in Wisconsin and other states trying to curb collective bargaining rights for public employees.

I recently read a historical account of the assassination of MLK, Jr. Ralph Abernathy was at his side on the balcony when he was shot, and cradled his head in his arms. At some point, however, Jesse Jackson came onto the balcony and put his hands in the fallen leader's blood and wiped it on his sweater. Then, in television interviews, he claimed to be the first one to King's side. He wore the blood-smeared sweater for hours afterward. I thought that pretty much said it all about this opportunistic and immoral man.

1041-He wore that sweater for days after the shooting, which resulted in many associates that were close to King to dismiss Jesse Jackson as simply someone looking to gain from the tragedy. There are more then a couple accounts from those that were there during Kings' murder who'll never forgive Jackson for his actions. Jackson is the lowest of the low.

How about the "human rights" of those forced to belong to a union?

Democrats think what ever they want is a right! What ever happened to going out and working for what you want?

Whenever you don't get what you demand or deserve, start screaming "racism!" or "civil rights violation!"....usually works.

"A right is not a right when one individual is required to surrender a portion of his life, liberty or property to another individual so he or she can exercise that right."
