Wisconsin Governor Officially Cuts Collective Bargaining

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker has officially taken away nearly all collective bargaining rights from the vast majority of the state's public employees.

Walker signed the bill to do so privately Friday morning. He planned an afternoon news conference in the Capitol.

The explosive measure passed the Assembly on Thursday following more than three weeks of protests that drew tens of thousands of people to the Capitol in opposition. The Senate cleared the way for passage with a surprise move Wednesday that allowed them to vote on the bill without 14 Democratic senators present.

That ends — for now — a three-week battle that saw all Democratic state senators flee to a neighboring state and as many as 80,000 protest at the Capitol building.

Great job Gov Walker, now lets get the ball rolling in Maryland and bust these Unions

I don't believe MD Unions have bargaining rights but, none the less, Public Employees are just that. Unions have no place in getting between people that work to serve the Private Sector and the Governing body elected by the citizens of the State. With Public Sector Unions, negotiations take place between Government officials and union members about what to charge taxpayers for their services. The taxpayer is has no representation.

There was a comment earlier by a State Employee stating that they too pay taxes. What was not mentioned is that the money used by a State Employee to pay taxes comes from the taxpayer.

The unions have no business negotiating their contracts with the politicians who the contribute funds to. It's unethical at the very least and massively corrupt t worst either way the tax payers are getting fleeced.

Martin Omalley has no balls to do that.Washington would cremate him.

Don't celebrate too early......we're opening the door to $8 an hour wages for the next generation. If you're 50 years old now, so what. If you're just out of college and you have a BS in marketing, and are now entering the work force....hows 8$ an hour sound. Welcome to the new economic reality.

This is a good sign but we have long way to go. Some of my buddies are union electricians in md and they think the unions over there are ridiculous. I believe he said that they have to contribute much more in MD. According to them it's no where near as bad in MD, hard to believe.

Just because you have this degree doesn't mean society owes you any more or is even able to pay you more. You are thinking too much like a Union. In a field such as marketing, YOU set your earnings based upon your ability to perform in the area in which you work. Salisbury may not be that area for you to succeed.

Just out of college? MOVE to find what YOU want. Stop sponging off your parents. :^)

the reality of it all is the post WWII generation of laboring middle class was a big wet dream
an inflated reality and those that made out tend to believe it and thought they'd arrived and settled in without thinking about a future of modern infrastructure
duped first by the threat of communism and bilked by the military industrial machine and a government that first armed and allied the new boogie men now known as terrorist
the American dream was created and sold out by our own
since our founding there has always been an opportunist CLASS that despite the vanquishing guise of a peoples democracy its truly a classic republic that's foundations are that of indenture-tude
to a degree at this point that the nation itself is in borrowed indenture
borrowed dreams
sad delusions

Hey ...Al in Fenwick....I'm an old guy...I was just making a point. My point is , the now generation, has to accept a very low starting wage. The working people in this new society are starting @ the same wage I started @ 20 years ago. I ended up owning the company....the exception, not the rule.
