PRMC

Hi Joe,

Just wanted to tell you about a situation at PRMC last night. One of the call center operators was leaving through the front entrance and was attacked by a man who was trying to steal her pocketbook. She was screaming for help and everyone was running in different directions (visitors leaving, other employees, etc) Security was called and the guy ran off and the security gaurd (Officer Howard) didnt do a thing. Told the operator that if she sees the guy again, give her a call but since he was gone there was nothing she could do.. WOW! Makes me feel real safe to go there to visit people and I feel sorry for the employees who have to work there when even their own security doesn't care about them!

Sincerely,
Annonymous

If the guy was already gone, what should security have done? I assume the police were called.

Don't walk around with a pocketbook, leaving yourself vulnerable. Walk in pairs. Have someone looking out as you leave. Get a grip, people. You need to take responsibility for your own safety.

There was also a purse snatching in front of the Giant at 1:30 in the afternoon on Sunday. The manager on duty caught the woman, returned purse and called the police.

So now being responsible for our own safety means women cant walk around with pocketbooks ? At the very front entrance to a major hosiptal none the less..... They could have easily taken a look at security cameras or notified the police. That is at least one thing they could have done. Also they could have canvased the area see if anyone matched the description. I refuse to allow hard times dictate to me what I can and can not do. 5 years ago walking around with a purse was acceptable now it is considered being reckless and not considering your safety ? Tell me what kind of world is that .

After a recent patient visit, I felt a little nervous returning to my car.It was dark and I had to go to the parking garage in the dark. I asked for an escort to my car and Security willingly went with me. The service is available, use it and be safe.

maybe the purse snatcher felt this was the best place to try this, just in case he got the living daylights beat out of him, he wouldn't have to go far for treatment!

i agree with 11:33. Carry a gun!
Then you don't have to depend on deputy dog! They could have shown concern. However it was only an employee. Peggy wouldn't want to waste the time on that. Not making her any money!

There's a lot he/she could have done; it wouldn't necessarily have caught the thief, but he/she could have tried! I have to say it's sad that not another soul in the area tried to help...are we all so self-centered that we run from someone who needs help? How sad. PRMC is a disgrace anyway...lousy care, outrageous billing errors, uncaring staff, I shouldn't be surprised that the security staff doesn't care either.

They must get their security at the same place Walmart gets theirs.

sincerely deleirous,
although prmc security has sworn officers, some do not have police powers and SPD handles criminal complaints in and around the hospital, did your friend call the police? joe, you should be careful about posting third party information like this that is unsubstantiated.

8:50 That's funny but sad. What is this world coming to? Why bother to have security guards if they can't do anything? Nowhere in Salisbury is safe anymore.

I can believe it.Last time when I was a patient, having my child, you should have seen the riffraff strolling thru the wards.

What is really sad about this article is that you will never hear about the crimes and violence that occurs on PRMC property in the media. It happens all of the time but it is bad press, so it is not generally reported to the police unless done so by a non-employee.

Employees are not ever notified of "shady character" other than word of mouth that wonder around. There are people who get robbed at the ATM machine in the first floor, in the parking lots, in office spaces etc. It is not reported. Yes, there are PLENTY of cameras. Perhaps someone of authority would do the right thing and be nice enough to offer that information to the police. Maybe Roger Folllebout could negotiate that relationship.
