So around here, when you have 5 or more seated together and when the bill comes, they automatically added 15%, is that legal? Just because 5 people were sat together?

If you have a problem tipping 15% for a party of five you don't have enough money to eat out and should just stay home.

sure they can add an auto 15%, and thats what they will get. i typicall tip more then that, but if they want to legislate it makes it easier for me

The new clarity follows a lawsuit filed against famous NY-based chef Mario Batali who was sued by waitstaff at his restaurants for allegedly withholding tips made on credit cards.

What a jerk.

Yes it is legal.

What is illegal is when they charge the tip but don't give it to the wait staff.
