how do you not see the slow train moving down the clear tracks?

I had just crossed the tracks and was waiting for light to turn green when I heard the train whistle BUT there were no flashing lights when I crossed the track - both my son and I said "where did that train come from".

Did anyone notice how long it was before the red crossing lights came on and the train crossed the intersection??

I work with family member of those involved. One has passed away.

did the 9:50 witness notice if the warning lights were actived to allow enough time for traffic to clear tracks?

i cannot understand how they were hit...did they try to out run the train or were they totally oblivious to the on coming train... why is there no gate.. this is a very busy intersection, people from out of the area may not realize trains travel here.

10:07, your full of poop.

10:18, when there are RxR crossbucks, and metal rails going across a road, it is a good indication that a train crosses. Also, the lights may also be a trigger to say " hey pay attention, a train crosses here" but instead, people just drive like they always do.

I passed the scene just after it happened. I was on my way Crown Sports Center. There are many roads that cross those tracks, like the one when you are entering onto the road to Crown. There are no gates and I do not remember seeing lights either just a yield sign. What a tragic and seemingly unnecessary loss. I will pray for them tonight.

I want to make something very clear here, since rumors have already started. As of this time there have been NO fatalities.

Anonymous said...

Praise the Lord if there are no fatalities. It will be a miracle if they survive something like this! I am going to bed feeling very uneasy in anticipation of the outcome and wondering who was in the van. Said a prayer for them all.

all the lights where on for sure the railroad lights were flashing when the train was crossing sonic two cars shot across threw the red blinkers trying to beat north bound traffic the van did not make it if you did not see or hear that train there is something wrong with you everything was working except the choice the driver made sithro

Whether the lights were working at the Sonic entrance does not prove the lights were functional at the Cedar Lane entrance.

the lights were on everyone in the area saw and heard i watched the train if they were not working there should of been more cars hit by the train

Nobody knows for sure what happen, but you all want to blame someone or something. So instead of blaming try praying these people live to see another day. That's what you would want someone to do for you..... so STOP blaming and START praying.. I will pray for them.

Lights or no Lights---trains have the right of way. Check the books.

Local people have complained before of almost being hit at this intersection. Maybe something will be done to improve safety there now.

If you read what you posted maybe you will understand how they got hit.

Look guys it does matter if there are gates or not many people run through them too. the thing is people pay attention to the traffic light knowing the railroad track lights are flashing they speed up to get through both i've seen this happen many of times since i live 3 streets down from this intersection. not putting blame on anyone, but people are in such a hurry to get to no where. I really hope the family is ok and makes it through this and maybe this will help other realize that just because you aren't going to make it through that your life is more important than being hit by a train. People stay behind the white line it is there for a reason. Don's stop on the tracks you all have seen what can happen if you do.

The train always makes his position know long before he crosses an intersection,

Anonymous said...

Any update on the victims?

Of course the train has the right away... It can't stop.

1138 AM

I dont think people would run through the gate if it was there.

Anonymous said...

Why hasn't the news reported anymore on this?? I saw the accident and want to know how the victims are doing!

Anonymous said...

12:55 ive seen people go around the gate on the tracks at milford street many times.

For any and everyone who have negative things to say about this you need to mind your business. there have been no fatalities and we thank God for that, no we were not lucky but in the hands of God. It's all common sense who in their right mind would chance thier lives to play "chicken" with a train. they were not in a rush to get anywhere or go anywhere. Just because the lights near sonic were working does not mean the lights near cedar lane were working. There have been numerous cases of the lights not working.

Lights were working fine on Cedar today.
