Capitol Hill employees owed more than $9 million in overdue taxes at the end of 2009, according to the Washington Post.
About four percent of workers owe taxes, or 638 out of more than 18,000 employees.
The Post reports:
The debt among Hill employees has risen at a faster rate than the overall tax debt on the government's books, according to Internal Revenue Service data. ...IRS debt among government workers has surfaced repeatedly as a political issue over the years, most recently when Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah) introduced legislation this year to fire federal workers who owe back taxes unless they have entered into a payment plan.
Among the Senate's delinquent taxpayers, the average tax debt is $12,787. Among House workers, it's $15,498.

When the head of the IRS is himself a tax scofflaw, and so many other high ranking officials, including Senators, Representatives and Cabinet members are too, with little to no punishment (believe me, MILLIONS of Americans were OUTRAGED that a guy who got caught not paying taxes gets to be the head of the IRS), then why should they be worried about it?? YOU or I, (the average middle class people) don't pay even a little bit of taxes, the IRS will confiscate our property, garnish our wages, freeze our bank account, add interest and penalties that can far exceed the amount owed--- and will not only do it PROMPTLY, but without mercy and relentlessly. So how do these people get away with this??? They make princely salaries...oh yeah, I think I know --- PUBLIC MASTERS, NOT PUBLIC SERVANTS...the time for a change (and I ain't talking "elections") is approaching ever so quickly....

How badly does our coutry need another Thomas Jefferson?? A very wealthy man who could have been completely comfortable with his wealth and lifestyle, but risked EVERYTHING, including his life, for the greater ideal of a government of, for, and by, the people....oh yes, there are rich people today running for office, but they are fake, posers and selfish men with ulterior motives and if you asked them "are you willing to give up your wealth and perhaps your life for what you stand for and believe in?", the answer would ALWAYS be a resounding "NO!" We need such a leader today...badly....instead, we have rich men promising to "take up for the little man", when in fact, they have no idea what the "little man" goes through each day. Nor do they care.
