Annual Roadway Report Ranks Maryland 48th

Some roadways you travel every day have been ranked as some of the worst in the country, according to a new report.

The Reason Foundation, an organization that provides public policy research, released its 19th annual report on the performance of state highways. Maryland ranked a low 48th while Virginia placed 18th
.
The 109-page report has a breakdown of all state-owned roads broken down into 11 categories, including congestion, deficient bridges and fatality rates.

Maryland is detailed as having the lowest performance on urban interstate congestion, but it fared best in fatality ranking. Maryland spends about $400,000 in total disbursements for bridge maintenance and construction per mile.

Wicomico County must be ranked at least 100th then! The roads around the county are in terrible shape. It really has become a joke and waste of taxpayers money to tarr and chip. It only last about two weeks. Common sense will tell you to do a better job up front even if the cost is a little higher, it will last longer!

Having drove up and down the east coast many times, MD isn't even the worst on the east coast(in terms of actual condition of roadways). Try out Jersey, South Carolina, and even Virginia(atleast in NoVa). I live in DC, and spent the last 3-4 years commuting around DC/Baltimore, the worse thing about it is the traffic, not the roads. The traffic is some of the worst in the nation.
