COUNCIL MEMBERS CAMPBELL AND COHEN TO HOST PUBLIC INPUT MEETING ON ANTI-CRIME LEGISLATION PACKAGE

The Salisbury 2010 Safe Streets Neighborhood Legislative Package will be the focus of a public input meeting on Wednesday, September 15, 2010, 6:30 p.m. in council chambers on the third floor of the Government Office Building, located in downtown Salisbury at 125 North Division Street.

Hosted by Salisbury City Council Members Debbie Campbell and Terry Cohen, the meeting is open to all members of the public and is structured to encourage an informed community-wide dialog on the seven anti-crime initiatives contained in the package unveiled by Mayor Jim Ireton on August 2. The mayor, all other council members, all city staff and key agencies and institutions have been invited as well.

Council President Louise Smith and Member Shanie Shields have already declined the invitation and were joined by Council Vice President Gary Comegys in refusing the request to use the council chambers’ television capabilities to broadcast the meeting live or tape it for later broadcast to the public. That consensus is required by the Council Regulations and Rules of Order.

“While our colleagues’ response has been disappointing, I remain hopeful that even just one of them will reconsider, which would allow us to televise the meeting and achieve greater public education and transparency,” Campbell said.

“The public, of course, is welcome to bring audio and video recording devices,” Cohen stated, adding, “Sharing the entire meeting with others would be especially helpful to ensure that all comments and information are available in context.”

Citizens having special needs for attending or participating in the meeting are encouraged to contact the city clerk’s office at 410-548-3140 in advance so that efforts for reasonable accommodation can be made. Other questions or comments can be directed to Campbell at 410-860-0893 (debbiescampbell@comcast.net) or to Cohen at 410-845-0296 (Terry@TerryCohen.com), and additional information is available at a website they share, www.OnYourSideSBY.blogspot.com.

Is PAC 14 SUPPORTED BY THE TAX PAPERS OF wICOMICO COUNTY??? If that is so then I as a county ciziten demand it be BROADCAST.

I would think since they all live in the same CITY they would all be there to try to get the public's input on how we can better the situation. This does NOT look good that they are ignoring a major problem in Salisbury.

What is Louise, Shanie, and Gary thinking. Here we have an issue that is important to residents and property owners and they refuse to participate! I agree with 5:16 but the problem is probably not about PAC 14 but about using the Council Chambers, perhaps Terry and Debbie should move this event to another site, a church or non-profit to allow the program to be televised. I for one will not be missing this!! But I know folks who will and would want it televised!

Kudos to Campbell and Cohen.

It is OUTRAGEOUS that Smith and Shields would be against this JUST because "their side" didn't come up with it.

Did Campbell and Cohen vote against every piece of legislation Barrie Tilghman brought forward? Hell no!

Smith and Shields are sicko little children who would rather see people suffer than work on a solution. It's just like when Mike Dunn said he wouldn't work with Debbie Campbell.

Worse, Louise used Campbell and Cohen to get elected. Just sickening!

Shields and Smith yet again display their foolishness after not attending even one of the Safe Streets meetings (dozens of them held in the public eye)by refusing to attend this one or encourage the public to become more educated about and discuss the package. It's their chance to "bring the stakeholders to the table", just what they say they wanted, but it has to be exactly their way or no way at all.

Debbie and Terry: you rock.

Shanie and Louise: you reek.

Yes Louise did use Campbell and Cohen to get elected as well as other residents in the city. One of those that she used was a top candidate for a position as a department head in the city and she voted against him. Talk about sickening!!

Does anyone here have access to some decent A/V recording equipment so this can be uploaded on U-tube, or posted here on the blogs?

The PAC 14 equipment can be loaned to qualified people and it can be taped.

Louise Smith is a witch. I think I despise her worse than Barrie Tilghman.

I talked to Cohen about the location. She said they are allowed to use chambers without permission from the others, but can't televise without at least 3 saying yes.

I don't have equipment, but I'm sure there will be others who will find a way to make this available.

It's time for the People to stand up!

This so badly needs to be televised. Smith & Shields are acting like 2 year olds here - no, matter of fact 2 year olds act better than they do. Why is it always if it's not their idea, it's not a good idea - I used to have a supervisor with this same mentality, you could have all the best ideas in the world but if it wasn't her idea, nope, it was no good. This council will never get anywhere with mentalities like this and Salisbury will slowly slip away to non existant status.
