Run, Jump & Throw At The Hershey’s Track & Field Games

(Salisbury, MD) Children between the ages of 9 & 14 (age as of December 31, 2010) who love to run, jump, and throw are invited to participate in the free Hershey’s Track and Field Games. Come out and join in the fun by competing in basic track and field events and have a chance of a lifetime to receive an all expense trip to compete in the annual North American Final Meet held in Hershey, PA each year. From beginners to track enthusiasts all are welcome! You must be a Maryland resident and proof of age will be required. No spikes or shoes designated for spikes will be allowed on the track.

Wicomico Recreation, Parks and Tourism will run a Local Hershey Track & Field Meet on Wednesday June 16 at 6:00pm at Wicomico County Stadium on the grounds of Wicomico High School. Registration will begin at 5:00pm. Participants can enter two track and one field or two field and one track event. Events will include the 50 meter dash, 100 meter dash, 200 meter dash, 400 meter dash, 800 meter run, 1600 meter run, 4 x 100 meter relay, standing long jump, and softball throw.

The Hershey’s Track & Field Games have involved millions of youngsters from all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Canada. It is sponsored by the National Recreation and Park Association, USA Track & Field, Athletics of Canada and by the The Hershey Company. Hershey’s Track & Field Games are designed to encourage physical fitness among youth and emphasize participation and sportsmanship.

Advanced registration is not required, but participants are encouraged to bring a completed entry form with them the day of the event. Download a form from www.WicomicoRecandParks.org/events.htm or stop by the Wicomico Youth & Civic Center to pick up a registration form prior to the event.
