Meeting in the Oval Office, Obama said Arizona's law and similar efforts by more than 20 states would interfere with the federal government's responsibility to set and enforce immigration policy.
Neither side appeared to give ground on the contentious issue although both talked about seeking a bipartisan solution.
Obama urged her to "be his partner" in working toward a comprehensive overhaul of the nation's badly fractured immigration system.
Brewer told The Associated Press afterward that she told Obama her state is not ready for the comprehensive solution he favors.
"I said we need to have the fence completed, have more troops on the border and more resources" for aerial surveillance, she said.

The most effective way to stem illegal immigration is to fine the unethical employers who hire illegals. Building fences and sending troops to the border is only marginally effective, and, most importantly, it costs TAXPAYERS' MONEY. The fines, however, would add revenue and create jobs for American citizens.
This logical approach will never happen as the business lobbies have bought and paid for our legislators.

no, the MOST effective way would be to treat BOTH problems. stop the bleeding (illegals coming in) and treat the infection (illegal immigrant employers). Proper wound care people. if you only treat the infection, you bleed to death. if you stop the bleeding, but allow the infection to continue, you die. purge the infections (illegal immigrants already here and give crippling fines to the employers) and stop the bleeding.
i say shoot em as they try crossing. i think that may start deterring a few of these guys...
God forbid we keep our troops and our own money in our own country to protect our own american people and the tax payers that work so hard TO MAKE THIS COUNTRY GO 'ROUND. I don't see why this is rocket science. I really don't. B/c we want to give these illegal immigrants 'rights' and we're worried a/b the 'rights' or lack thereof they have/don't have in their own country? meanwhile thier dumb ass president is knocking Americans for the desire to keep his trash out of our country? Hmmmmm...there's no need to tread lightly on this...are we worried a/b hurting feelings? I have a feeling if it came down to it, we'd beat Mexico in a fist fight. Totally on board with the fining of the dumb employers here in america that are crippling us and fighting against us. Send them to Mexico, too.

Arizona has a law to heavily fine businessesthat hire illegals, but Obama is taking them to court over that also.
