(Salisbury, MD) The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) paid a visit to Salisbury this afternoon (Thursday, June 3) to help prepare for the Free Youth Fishing Derby slated for this Saturday, June 5. DNR’s Jerry Stivers delivered over 500 Sunfish to Salisbury City Park Lake, which is also home to Catfish, Large-Mouth Bass, Perch and Carp.
Children 15 and under are invited to Salisbury City Park this Saturday to take part in the Youth Fishing Derby, which is an annual event hosted by Wicomico Recreation, Parks & Tourism. Registration will begin at 8:30am (advanced registration is not necessary), and fishing starts promptly at 9:00am. Each child must bring their own rod and bait. Several catch and release contests are planned. Prizes and trophies will be awarded for the biggest fish, most fish caught, youngest angler, most unusual catch and more.
As an added component, children participating may qualify for a unique category and win a guided fishing trip sponsored by the Maryland Department of Natural Resources. Last year 12 children throughout the state won trips donated by Maryland charter boat captains, which are currently being scheduled and will take place throughout the summer.

the last fishing tournament that we took our grandchildren to, the goose manure was so bad, even in the restrooms, we had to leave because of the odor and getting manure all over our shoes. what a shame. all our grands love to fish. thanks sjd
Unfortunately most of those fish will die in a couple of days if they are not caught.
