Sunday a week ago we posted photos showing the overgrown weeds and grass and the accumulated trash at the site of the former Salisbury Mall. We also posted the letter from the City’s “Neighborhood Services and Code Compliance Department” to the property owner, Salisbury Mall Associates, citing them and giving them until June 19 to take appropriate action, after which it states that the City would do so.
Well, that date has long passed and even now the site has not been mowed or cleaned up.
This is the City that comes down on residential property owners for a few blades of grass in the sidewalk, but nothing has been done about acres covered with tall weeds and grass, now going to seed, and trash at the site of that old mall. Once again, it’s Salisbury’s biggest “Slum Property of the Week.”
And it’s time for action, Mr. Ireton!

I agree it is a sight.
Keep putting the screws to him. At some point Jim is going to have to save face and do something.
The City and the neighbors of the old mall fought the developers tooth and nail, sapped their funds and imposed, what they believe, unworkable restrictions. They got what they wanted, now they should just live with it. Ain't pretty, but it's not what was intended; it's the most reasonable response to unreasonable people.
I don't believe Jim Ireton is not going to do anything. He talks a good game, but when push comes to shove he doesn't have what it takes.
Condemn the property and take it for nothing.
Someone needs to take a photograph of the Salisbury-Wicomico-Ocean City airport parking lot.
The entire parking lot is infested with weeds. It looks as bad as the Old Mall site - if not worse.
Go ahead & make it a truckstop. The 18wheelers are already parking on the St. Alban road side. Looks so classy..................
Why does Ireton not blast the owners of the old mall like he does landlords and SAPOA?
11:09 makes me sick. Just another person who wants Salisbury to "spread 'em" for any flash-in-the-pan that wants to milk this cash cow. Tell you what, 11:09, I'll keep my tax money and you can support that neglected property. The old eyesore would still be up if it weren't for those Mallers keeping the pressure on.
im pretty sure the city cannot do or say anything about that property as it is county and not city zone. same as the airport .... not that im for or against either side of the argument but that seems like the way it looks
You can be sure that NSCC has sent notices to the property owners. That's what's allowed by the law. For those of you who want the mayor to come out with both barrels smoking, it's not what he can do, just what's allowed by the law.
Natelson and Dzaman will prolong this for as long as they can. They have the money and the legal talent to do so. At least we aren't left with a half-finished mess like the riverside condos. Speaking of which.....
